Something doesn't sound right about this...
Canadian Border Services walked off the job on Sunday after hearing reports of an armed and dangerous fugitive heading their way....
"They exercised their right to refuse work," said Faith St. John, spokeswoman for the Canadian Border Services Agency.

This is not the first time they have done this. They are not armed, so when they get any glimpse of impending trouble, they abandon their posts.
Yawn..........

So why are the people who are suppose to be protecting our borders not armed?
Nice signature nacho!

In August, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that border guards would be armed starting in 2007.

Think of a line, and on one side of the line there is the USA and the other side of the line is Canada.
On the USA side, you better bet they are armed. On the Canadian side, no one is armed.
So.... sleep well. It is the Canadians who have to worry about their borders not being armed.

Interesting, very interesting...I can kind of see their point...I though it to be very funny.
I wish I could exercise my right to refuse work and still have a job....

Nacho, I admit that I haven't been around HT too much over the weekend because I was busy, so there have been a lot of threads to catch up on. That said, what is UP with your siggie?

You are quoted, my friend. I can back out now............
But I am a man, I pay my debts and fulfill my commitments. I will not chose the path of dishonor.
Revel in your saccharine glory, you are about to bite into a habanero the next time you eat nachos on Sunday. You will feel the heat, first a gentle numbing of the lips and then throat constricting pain.
Water, bread, Pepto, nothing will save you.
To keep this on topic (sort of)............your borders will be unprotected and I will be laughing at your retreating backsides
;) plus I don't even know who Bev is so, nyahhhhhhhh

I thought the new Canadian government was going to change the rules so their border agents could carry weapons? Yeah, here's a story from Canada (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20060125/border_patrols_060125/20060125?hub=TopStories) in January of this year that says the Tory government promised to start arming its guards at the Peace Arch crossing in Blaine, WA and 2 other places. And here's another more recent story (http://www.komw.net/artman/publish/article_2963.shtml) that says the arming of the guards won't start until 2007 and a full rollout won't occur for another 10 years.

But the second article says they won't be able to get the project rolling until later in 2007 because of the training and expense of arming the guards.
