Well, many that know me... Know that my mom has fought cancer on and off for most of my life.

Tonight, she told me she has lymphatic cancer again.

Please hold my mom in your prayers....

OK everyone...don't feel sorry for me... I don't want to sound callous here...

My mom was warned to stop doing the things she did many times now...

I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me.... Yeah it sucks... but no need feel sorry for me... You can feel sorry for her though...

My mom lived the lifestyle she did as her choice...it's my choice to avoid that lifestyle.

However, TIA.

the thing I'm most worried about... is my mom possibly feeling rejected by my 2 year old son that doesn't recognize grandma without hair on her head come x-mas time....

I mean I know after a few minutes it will mean nothing to him... but, my mom is worried that my son won't hug her when she first see's him after she starts losing her hair...again.

My son was only 4 months old the first time she lost her hair...now he's 2 1/2... and I know myself he will get over it... cause it's "grandma" to him... however, my mom doesn't want to scare him....

I told her no worry...just wear a hat...etc...

Am I scared... Nope... Proud that my mom has foughten through these things before and know that she will get through this.... Love you mom... feel free to start posting here on HT... I know your lurking!

When My sons grandmother was passing from Cancer...I editted a picture of her for my son. He was 4 at the time. then I did one of me and him and my husband and showed him how we would all look without hair.

I know it is silly and may be insensitive but it worked for him.

And the only thing that scared him was all the equipment in thre hospital. But he was able to sit with her many days. So whatever works.

freaking brilliant "pinkshave ice!" You know I give you crap everytime w/ your name...

but that is simply so fricking brilliant that I'm going to try it... so easy etc....

Thanks Pinky.

I'm actually going to make a full size picture of her head w/out hair and get him introduced the picture of her w/out hair long before he sees her...

fricking brilliant... and too easy.... Once again... HT has blessed me with a serious answer to something I just through out there... this is some of the brilliance of this place....

You and mom got my prayers as well, Manoa.

I've got an uncle who was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer in his 30's. He eventually had the cancer surgically removed at Mayo Clinic. Unfortunately the surgery also involved removing some voice box and esophagus tissue, rendering him to be fed by tube for the rest of his life.

On the plus side, he's alive and doing well and the cancer is in complete remission.

Stay positive.

jdub...

this is my moms 4th cancer... third time needing chemo.

I almost lost her when I was 5... I'm now 37... I'm strong and have learned well from her.

I'm at peace with myself and my mom has 100% support of me...again.

I just wish she would have stopped doing things that she does to herself a long time ago!

She's my mom... I can't control her activities or tell her what to do...just on the basis of the "she's my mom rule"... However, I know she reads HT and is reading this post.... so anyone that would like to chime into her... she may listen being that it is not her son....(love you mom)

No need! I'm a mom to 2 kids a bit older than you. It would distress me no end to have them discuss an illness of mine, beyond asking for prayers and positive thoughts, with an online community; one that can be viewed worldwide. Your post #1 was heartfelt and appropriate. Your mom has been in my daily prayers since. You, too, Manoa. It's not easy for the family either.

thanks tutu

my mom has been lurking HT for awhile now...reading my posts and learning more about me...

I speak from my heart and she loves that fact.

I know she is probably now reading this cancer thread that I started... cause she seems to read everything I post....

Thanks for your support... and what I meant... is to give encouragement to my mom and not me... I'm not going through cancer... my mom is... she's not about to post... i don't think... she's to new to the whole internet thing...etc...

I just set her up with some yahoo cancer support groups and she still didn't know what some basic things were about certain things...and she just doesn't feel comfortable talking online....

However, my mom does know I write about her and our ohana obviously... and she is very proud of what I have become ...considering who she married to procreate me.

Prayers to your Mom & you. Prayers work.

As a Thyroid Cancer survivor & a Mom of 3 grown kids; I undastand da part about not wanting "the kids" to dwell on the C-issue but asking for prayers and all is cool. My thought is at least my kids are grown and I know they'll be ok without me. Although none of my kids have made any kids YET, so I'm hanging around to see some grandkids, at least one sheesh.

This may sound retarded but there are some good things about Cancer. Like it makes you appreciate what you have and I not talking about material things; more like ohana, friends and faith. It should not take a disease or illness to make you appreciate family, friends and ones faith but hey sometimes thats they way things work. The Lord works in mysterious ways. I think that might be one of'em. Or maybe thats just with me.:D

thanks to all who are giving prayers for my mom...

Here is an article on how "Pre-op chemotherapy aids young cancer patients"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061010/hl_nm/cancer_children_dc

I really feel sorry for kids that have cancer.... Especially those that have never even had a cigarette in there life...yet still they have gotten cancer for one reason or another.

Children with advanced kidney cancer may suffer fewer long-term side effects and need less treatment if they are given chemotherapy to shrink their tumor before surgery, researchers said on Tuesday.

I'm sure you did not mean to be so insensitive, but using the term "retarded" in such a manner is not appropriate usage.

Peace and health to you. :)

Happy Anniversary Chemotherapy!
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the first report of a trial of cancer chemotherapy, an event closely related to the development of chemical poisons for use in warfare. Clinical investigators were able to derive some good for mankind from the agony and pain resulting from chemical agents created primarily to destroy humans.
http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/extract/296/12/1518
In 1946, Goodman and colleagues described how they (all leaders in pharmacology and hematology) had joined in a war-time study of the effects of poison gas on lymphomas. Their findings had not been made public earlier because of the cloak of secrecy in World War II...

Interesting finding this out now!

Have her try herbal supplements and natural remedies in addition to what her doctor suggests. Google the following:

Neem
Curcumin
Colloidal Silver

Hope everything works out okay.

Thanks for your concern Senora.

Just found some more interesting stuff regarding kidney cancer.
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - A diet high in refined cereals, and bread in particular, is associated with an elevated risk of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the main type of kidney cancer, according to a study in Italy...

Before doing that, you should be absolutely sure that you check with your doctor or pharmacist to find out if the supplements are safe for the individual (given his/her particular medical conditions), if they are safe in combination with other medications and what possible side effects they might cause. Supplements aren't safe just because they're "natural." Be very careful.

(AP) -- A controversial new study offers the strongest evidence yet that screening smokers for lung cancer with computerized chest scans can save lives, much as mammograms do for women with breast cancer.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/10/25/lung.cancer.ap/index.html

Early screening is always a good way of detecting early forms of cancer with all forms of cancer.

Maddie is right.

I have seen horrific adverse reactions from "all-natural herbal remedies," from permanent nerve damage to death.

I've seen patients' families INSIST that we continue giving these "remedies" to their very ill loved ones, even after we've explained that these "cures" are contributing to the illness.

They can be disastrous to your health, especially if you already have kidney or liver damage.

Great... something else to worry about... well not for me... but for women.
Eating red meat may raise a woman's risk of a common type of breast cancer, and vitamin supplements will do little if anything to protect her heart, two new studies suggest.......
