Aloha Kakou,
Please consider reading and signing these important online petitions,
as described below. Whatever your feelings about Akaka-Stevens Bill
and Hawaiian soveriegnty, at least look at the one about stopping the
export of Hawaiian prisoners to the mainland!
This is very important!

From Issac Harp:
Aloha Nui Loa!
As many of you know, I have four (4) petitions posted online. Two (2)
petitions are opposing the Akaka Bill, one (1) is for kanaka maoli and
one (1) is for all others. One (1) petition is seeking the release of
public information from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs for public
education purposes. And last but not least, one (1) petition is
seeking to stop the export of prisoners from Hawaii (both Hawaiian and
Kama'aina non-Hawaiian
residents).
The deadline set for the online petitions to close is May 8th. If you
have not yet done so, please sign the online petitions and share them
with your friends and ohana. The online petitions are listed below.

information regarding OHA's support of the Akaka Bill:

If you would like to print and collect physical signatures and you

Imua.Hawaii@verizon.net and I can attach a Word Document of any or all
of the petitions to an e-mail. Alternately, I can fax or mail you any
copies that you would like if you would like to help gather
signatures. Please specify what petition(s) you would like to receive
and your preferred method of receipt (e-mail, fax, or postal mail).
We can continue the collection of physical signatures after the online

Bios of Workshop Panelists
Clarence Kukauakahi Ching:
Kukauakahi is a kanaka maoli cultural practioner from Hawai’i. He is
active in numerous projects and community issues, seeking always to
preserve and
strengthen Native Hawaiian practices and values, and to foster
appreciation and
care of the ‘aina. In 2002 he co-founded “Huaka'i I Na 'Aina
Mauna” for
group hiking in the footsteps of "Ka Po'e Kahiko" on Hawai'i island.
Since 2002
he
has been an intervener in the contested Keck Observatories Outrigger
Telescope case. From 1992 to 1995 he was part of the Hawai'i Loa
construction
crew and
has planned a video documentary about the construction. He was
instrumental
in placing Kaniakapupu (Summer Palace of Kauikeaouli, King Kamehameha
III) on
the state and federal registers of historic places in 1986 and has
promoted
Uluhaimalama (The Queen's Garden in Pauoa) from the mid-1980s to
present. He was
co-executive producer of the video documentary "The 'Aina Remains"
(1983). He
served as a trustee of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) from 1986
to 1990.
Kukauakahi is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools (1954), a graduate of
Brigham Young University, (major chemistry, minor zoology-1963) and a
graduate
of
University of Idaho School of Law (1976).
David Philbrick Ingham:
David was born in Los Angeles but lived in Kaua’i during his early teens
through late twenties. David married in Kaua’i and his children were
born
there. While living in Kaua’i, he “developed a deep, abiding
respect for
Hawaiians.” In the early 1980's, David began to actively research Native
Hawaiian
history and documents as well as the state of Native American affairs
on the
mainland. After reading the 1993 Apology Resolution issued by the Clinton
administration, which stated the Native Hawaiians never did relinquish
their
land or
sovereignty, he began to conduct extensive research and analysis of the
Akaka-Stevens bill. David is outspoken in his assertion that federal
recognition
and
passage of this bill will have dire consequences for Native Hawaiians.
David has been welcomed as a speaker by the Living Nation at Iolani
Palace (2002), by Hawaiian Patriotic League (HPL) on Kaua’i (2002),
and has
traveled with Aloha ‘Aina to meet with legislators about the
Akaka-Stevens
bill in
March 2003. Much of his work can be found on www.stopakaka.com.

Information on Hawaiian Sovereignty. "The cause of Hawaii and independence is larger and dearer than the life of any man connected with it. Love of country is deep-seated in the breast of every Hawaiian, whatever his station." - Lili`uokalani, Hawaii's last Queen * "This is a historical issue, based on a relationship between an independent government and the United States of America, and what has happened since and the steps that we need to take to make things right." - Republican Governor Linda Lingle, January 2003 * "The recovery of Hawaiian self-determination is not only an issue for Hawaii, but for America. ... let all of us, Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian, work toward a common goal. Aloha e Ron, and welcome to HawaiiThreads.com! I recognize your name from a wide variety of online Hawaii communities.
You've posted more messages in one afternoon than our new site has seen in three days! I know you'll be a tireless source of event information, whether for hula or Hawaiian issues in general. I've combined your various posts in our various departments in one place so people know where to look. Simply add to this thread as you have new announcements to share!
I'd also recommend you add your mainland events to our Mainland Events Calendar (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/calendar.php?s=&month=4&year=2004&do=&c=2), which, would you believe, I created with you in mind! (I had already posted some of the events you sent to the Hawaii Yahoo! Group.)
Hope you'll come by often to join in the talkstory, in addition to spreading the word of hula and Hawaii.
