To the white Toyota Tacoma 4-door on the H1 Kunia on ramp @ 1951 12/25:
CAN'T YOU SEE THE LINES ON THE FRIGGIN FREEWAY??? You had to stay in your lane until the lanes came together, after that you wait until the solid lines became dotted lines!! Luckily when my older brother saw your sorry a$$ he swerved left and luckily the truck in the left lane gave way! And if that's not it, then you must have been very blind to see a WHITE 4 door car!

yup, there are a lot of drivers out there who don't demonstrate that they know how to drive! luckily for you, you avoided an accident that would have meant a whole truckload of stress even though it wouldn't have been your fault...

This is why it's generally a good idea to cool off before "ranting," either online or in person. When one shoots from the hip without a cooldown, one tends to say things one does not really mean.

Well the incident happened two days before he posted the note here. However I gotta say what are the odds of the driver of that car actually reads HawaiiThreads?

For the record, I drive a blue Isuzu Rodeo :)
But yeah, since day one when I moved here, I was cursing the driving "styles" of the people here.
Want to get rid of most of the traffic congestion ? Drive the speed limit, and stop driving with aloha. If one more person slows down to let another driver cut in front of them because they waited till the last second to take an exit, I swear I'm gonna buy me a white Toyota..............

leslie wilcox mentioned this story at the end of the 10 o'clock news a few days ago. can't possibly imagine that it would work in hawaii!

There's a traffic circle in Long Beach, Ca. that involves Pacific Coast Hwy., iirc. I remember that traffic circle from small kid days. I don't recall any problems with it, even once I started driving. I found it made me more aware of what others were doing thereby being more cautious. The circle takes away the danger of drivers blowing thru a stop sign or red light. I see that way too often here. Scary. Does anyone know if the Long Beach traffic circle still exists?
Ford Island has one altho' there isn't your 'normal' traffic using it! There are also traffic circles in Kaimuki (6th Ave.? very small...makes me nervous...I feel like I'm driving a truck on a go-cart course!) and the Salt Lake or Foster Village area. Or, was that one removed?

You referring to roundabouts? I read that they actually provide a better flow of traffic and reduce accidents on smaller intersections, not to mention reducing costs of traffic lights, maintenance on lights, and power bill for lights. Wonder if they could help with the island's traffic?

You referring to roundabouts?[...]
A curiosity question. What's the difference between a traffic circle and a roundabout? I'm fairly certain the one in Long Beach was called a traffic circle even tho' I'm taking my memory back a few decades! :D Maybe smaller ones such as Kaimuki and Salt Lake/Foster Village (whichever!) are roundabouts? Oops...forgot to mention the one in Haleiwa!
On the surface they don't appear to make sense but my limited, personal experience is that they work.

Here's what I found, looks like minor differences.
