Kimo - Mahalo for posting this video! The event was sponsored by a group I belong to and the play is a project of our civic club, Ka Lei Maile Ali`i HCC. We have been performing the play for a few years now - even on the continent, Kauai, Maui & Big Island.
If anyone would like more info about our play, please visit our website at www.kaleimailealii.net.

Thank you Kimo! So funny how so many people claim to be Hawaiian, yet you never see them envolved in any of struggles of the Kanaka Maoli. eh?

give em a lil time... and slack. I just found out about this. NOT that I am Hawaiian, but as a local white bwah, and having learned alot from two Hawaiian stepfathers, and having been born with a camera in my hands. (ouch that's gotta hurt), I try help a little, and in this growing area, I am actually witness to many kanaka maoli who are active in many ways. Do you see the "red shirt" marches? and what goes on unseen behind closed doors? with the "state" and the conklins and such, it is an uphill battle, and I think many more than you may give credit for, are working towards a common goal.

Struggle? I see em struggle all da time. Struggling to get that 12-pack in the foam cooler with two bags of ice. Solution: Get a bigger cooler and fill the empty space with another 12-pack:D
But seriously...there are many ways Kanaka Maoli get involved, one is thru the most popular way of activism and the other is thru educatiion.
One uses emotion and the other uses intellect. Combine the two and you have a formidable action plan. Remove one and you have a great idea but not too much action.

I thought my question was pretty clear. Can you expand/clarify your remarks rather than just making a blanket statement? Maybe tell us what YOU are doing personally to help with the "struggles" as you put it.
PS: I don't do "PM's" - if you can't say it in a thread for all to see, then maybe it shouldn't be said.

It wasn't a knock on any Kanaka Maoli. It was for people who "claim" to be but are not. Your right anapuni898...no more blank statements. I will next time be more clearly and carefully choose my words. Thank you for pointing that out.
What do I do? I don't like to get too personal ....but I do my part in perserving my culture. I'm a young man.... still learning...i'm no Ali'i yet. I serve. You lead the way and I will follow.
Thank you again anapuni808
Kimo55- It wasn't a knock on any Kanaka Maoli or people like yourself you truly care.

Perhaps unknowingly on your part, you have "knocked" a few folks on HT who do a lot for the struggle (as you called it) and the preservation of the culture, both hawaiian and non-hawaiian.

Hopefully he'll learn that it's wise to find out who the players are before jumping feet-first into the fire.

Kimo55- It wasn't a knock on any Kanaka Maoli or people like yourself you truly care.Sometimes, a "knock" is not a "knock" and sometimes it is:I am blessed with "Mana"...something you will never have and never understand...You know nothing of the struggles of these indigenous people.
You're either Kanaka Maoli or your not. It doesn't matter if you have 1/100 koko Kanaka Maoli....if you choose to acknowledge that you are Kanaka Maoli...then you are. If you have the koko then you have the right. And do you? Oh that's right, you'll only tell us in a PM...
Except that it's clear that you are not, but seem to feel authorized to speak for them - except when you aren't. Or when there are others who have the koko (or truly care, except when you don't think we do) who somehow are NOT authorized to speak on their own behalf. Are you ashamed to admit that you are of Samoan ancestry, rather than Hawaiian? Perhaps because you pretend to be Kanaka Maoli (by not denying your lack of koko, so that you can still presume to speak on their behalf), which you stated from the beginning was your pet peeve.
Confused? You certainly are.

Oh, really? Like who? And what exactly do they do?
