Seven people were injured in a collision today between a city bus and pickup truck at Middle and North King streets.

Why am I posting this? I was in that bus!

Okay, from a bus rider's point of view:

The bus was on Middle Street going towards the Transit Center when an idiot ran a red light, forcing the bus to slam into it. I was sitting at the rear seats facing the front, when I was jolted forward, almost landing on the woman sitting in front of me. All of us sees the Toyota pickup's hood smashed and we didn't get out of the bus for the next 15-30 minutes.

I took choke pictures, and I'll upload them onto my website for viewing.

And yes, I'm okay. I just came back from Circuit City, so I'm fully capable of walking.

Wow, Adrian. Glad you're okay. The bus is definitely the vehicle you'd want to be in, but several folks still had to go to the hospital.

Good documentation, there, too! :) The KITV report seemed to imply that it was the bus driver moving against the light (or perhaps I just heard wrong). I've certainly seen TheBus drivers take big liberties with traffic laws, but... you can be right, or alive, you know?

I was in a bus-car accident as a kid, on Kapahulu. Our bus rear-ended a Ford Escort that had stopped short. I'll never forget it... a very loud, airy "pop" sound and both doors flew open simultaneously. Basically half of the car was smushed into the other half. Driver was taken in an ambulance, car had to go on a trailer, and the only damage to the bus was a crooked license plate holder.

My Dad rear-ended a city bus back in the early 80's with his Volvo 240DL coming off the Waialae Avenue off ramp Koko Head bound. He drove his Volvo home, the bus had to be towed back to the yard.

Yeah Volvo's were built like tanks back then.:D

Don't bus engines take a direct hit from a rear ender? Volvo shoulda seized the opportunity for an ad! :D

I was the only person with a real camera - the others (mostly teens) took pics with the camera phones.

I submitted the pic with the smashed truck to Honolulu Advertiser last night. And I saw on KHON, that the right front side of the bus got damaged.

Yep. I heard that Volvos are the cars to get a crash in (atleast back in the day).

And the bus drivers (there was more than one in that bus when the crash occurred) was asking the passengers if anyone saw the truck run the red light.

I'm just wondering if I had been that truck, if my car would have survived...

Or are you going from the driver's recollection? Might not be an impartial observer there, you know. :p I gather from your pictures you were in the back segment of an articulated bus.

And more than one driver... driver training?

I didn't see anything because a) I was in the last row of seats against the engine and b) I closed my eyes about 1 second before the accident occurred to nap.

Yep
And more than one driver... driver training?
No, I guess its drivers heading down for their shifts or just finished and taking the bus home.
