Abe Weinstein

It was reported today on the Honolulu Advertiser website that jazz musician Abe Weinstein died yesterday at age 58. I got to play jazz under Abe back in high school and he was a fantastic musician and his work with the Hawaii International Jazz Festival and the Oahu Junior Jazz Ensemble helped to perpetuate and expand the love of jazz locally. Abe was great and he will be missed.

Wow. This news is such a surprise. I knew Abe wasn't well but I didn't know why. I had no idea it was diabetes and heart disease. Fifty-eight is far too young. R.I.P., Abe. And thanks for the years of jazz...and the dinner at the Kahala Hilton so many years ago.
