Forget the Van Halen reunion, this one looks even better, or less likely to fall apart:

The Police came one step closer to confirming a reunion tour on Tuesday (January 30) when it was announced that the trio will kick off the February 11 Grammy Awards telecast. The group, led by Sting, has reportedly been rehearsing for a summer tour, and their opening slot at the 49th annual awards show seems to confirm that the announcement of the full-fledged reunion is on.
The Police are expected to announce a reunion tour to coincide with a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the release of their first single, "Fall Out." It would be the first major outing by one of the biggest bands of the 1980s since their split in 1984, save for a one-night reunion in 2003 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

I'm reminded of "The Ruttles" and thier classic song..."All You Need Is Cash...ya da da da daaah..."
I wonder what the over/under is on how many dates they conclude before the first fist fight?
That said...this show I'd buy a ticket for. I was never a big Police fan until I became a huge fan of Stewart Copeland's drumming on the Animal Logic cds.

Last time I saw The Police in concert was the Zenyatta Mondatta Tour in 81' at the Blaisdell Arena.

Some tour dates announced....

Possible Australia & NZ dates later in the year....hope Hawaii gets in the mix somewhere as we normally do when bands trek across the Pacific. My only gripe is the (YIKES!) $225 ticket prices fro good seats.

The Police Will Tour Beginning May 28 ---
After the highly anticipated GRAMMY appearance last night -- where they performed "Roxanne" together after having disbanded in 1984 -- THE POLICE followed up today with a major concert tour announcement.
THE POLICE's STING, STEWART COPELAND and ANDY SUMMERS came onstage at L.A.'s WHISKY A GO-GO TODAY to the sound of STING's long-ago quote about a reunion happening would be "cause to certify me insane" and ripped into a version of "Message In A Bottle."
The band then confirmed their highly anticipated concert tour will begin on MAY 28 in VANCOUVER, playing arenas, some stadiums and making some special appearances throughout NORTH AMERICA. Some of the North American tour highlights announced include a headline performance at this year's JUNE 16 BONNAROO FESTIVAL in TENNESSEE, an appearance at BOSTON's historic FENWAY PARK on JULY 28 and two MADISON SQUARE GARDEN performances in NEW YORK CITY on AUGUST 1 and 3. Concert dates were also confirmed in SEATTLE, DENVER, LAS VEGAS, PHOENIX, DALLAS, NEW ORLEANS, ST. LOUIS, TORONTO and MONTREAL.
LIVE NATION Chairman/Global Music ARTHUR FOGEL also announced that the tour will continue this fall with dates in the U.K. and EUROPE, including appearances in HOLLAND, GERMANY, ITALY and FRANCE with additional countries to be announced. Additional dates in MEXICO, SOUTH AMERICA, JAPAN, AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND are anticipated.
"The anticipation and excitement to see THE POLICE is overwhelming and I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of bringing the band to their fans worldwide," said FOGEL.
A portion of the proceeds from this tour will be donated to WATERAID, an international NGO founded in 1981 and dedicated to reducing poverty by improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education.

Tickets for the North American leg of The Police tour will be scaled at $225.00, $90.00 and $50.00 in most markets (plus applicable service fees) and will go on sale to the public beginning this Saturday, February 17th in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. Tickets in Boston and New York City will go on sale Tuesday, February 20th. Additional on sale dates to be announced. There will be a 4 ticket limit per person for all arena shows and a 6 ticket limit per person for the stadium events.

Sweeeeeet. I went to their last show at Aloha Stadium when I was a kid. That was epic! The Police, Byran Adams AND Stevie Ray Vaughan.
But I don't know if the reunited Police is a show I'd have to see. At the Grammys, Sting either couldn't hit the high notes or didn't try.

When you were a kid, eh? I was fifteen and couldn't come up with the money for that show, but my classmates who went said it was awesome.
I did see Sting at the Arena in '92 (Valentine's Day) on the The Soul Cages tour and he rocked. Played a few Police songs, too.
I'd see this. I hope they come.

allow me a bit of blasphemy.
Everyone else did better versions of "Roxanne" than the Police did. Moulin Rouge, Dilana, everybody.
Who needs em?

Heck even Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop.:D
Whenever I think of the Police I remember that song "I'll be watching you" from 1982-83? That was a fantastic time for music as it was breaking out of the Disco craze and getting into the more techno pop music era.

yeah, and Puff Daddy/Faith Whatsherface did a better version of that song, too (I miss you, Big).
Sting on his own had some good jams. I hope they would include those.

As long as the reunion tour doesn't feature Sting doing a solo set with "Roxanne" played on lute.

For those who missed their Grammy performance on Sunday night (like myself), someone has it posted now on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sHXCs84iJc).
Sting still looks and sounds great. Andy Summers got a little chunky in the face. He's such an ace at selecting simple, yet effective chords.
Stewart Copeland still has his chops as well.
I have their Synchronicity Concert DVD (http://www.amazon.com/Police-Synchronicity-Concert-Sting/dp/B000AANBG0/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_1_img/102-0941881-5660956), which captures them in their prime back in the 80's. The directing and editing could use some help, but it's still a must-have for any Police (or individual members of the band) fan. ;)

Stewart Copeland still has his chops as well. Check out his recent disc, "Orchestralli," a recording of some of his film and "serious" music (along with a documentary DVD.) If you like what Zappa was doing with full orchestras near the end of his days, Copeland has taken that direction.

I'm also of this sector that says..."who cares ?"
Never cared for the Police, and definitely prefer Eddie Murphy's Version of "Roxanne" from 48 Hours.
Maybe, just gross overexposure to those songs makes me never wanna hear them again, I dunno.

Start saving your money. Dave Lawrence on the Big Kahuna confirmed with a mainland booking agent that it's happening at Aloha Stadium in February, right after the last Asian date.
I HATE stadium shows, but...I might have to see this one.

Saw them in Philly, BIG dissapointment. Just not put together...I am a HUGE Police Fan!!!!! It was an anti-climax...not to burst anyones bubble, might have just been that night.
Watching Copeland rip his kit appart was worth it, Andy was a little too "loose, and Gordon seemed to keep things to cut and dry.

Copeland's actually the main reason I'm tempted here. I've seen Sting in concert and thought he was great, but I've never seen Copeland live, and when someone THAT good plays live around here, I almost feel like I HAVE to check it out. I've already seen the best rock and roll drummer play (Neal Peart) and the best harmonica player (John Popper) and my favorite guitar player (Steve Howe)...I feel I should add Copeland to that collection. I really wanna see that high-hat work for myself!

Last time I saw The Police in concert was the Zenyatta Mondatta Tour in 81' at the Blaisdell Arena.
I used to work at Blaisdell on the clean up crew.
We'd start early mornings after whatever event the night before.
I found all kinds of 'paraphenalia' in The Police back stage locker area.
HaHa! Kinda ironic, eh?!

So Gordon Sumner (Sting's) son's band Fiction Plane is opening the concert. Try take a listen to Fiction Plane (http://www.fictionplane.net) (click on music) or here (http://www.myspace.com/fictionplane).
Good gravy, Joe Sumner is almost a splitting image of his dad! Both vocally and physically! Fiction Plane's musical style (from first impression) sounds like a cross between the Police (mainly because of the vocals), U2 and Maroon 5. It's actually pretty good stuff. I like it!
He should have named the band SWAT. lol

Saw them in Boston in Nov. They put on a fantastic show. Stings voice can't quite reach the highs that it did 20 years ago & the arraingements make note of that, otherwise (with the exception of Don't Stand So Close To Me - wich just didn't work) all the stuff was great. Didn't do Roxanne which was a little dissapointing but they did some wonderful deep cuts off Ghost and Outlandos that more then made up for it. Copeland can still get more out of a drum kit then most other guys out there and while Sumner has visably aged, he still plays a blistering guitar (actually, I think his playing is better then it was 20 years ago). Sting is, well, Sting.

Saw the '85 Aloha Stm. gig as well, where SRV more than stole the show, with The Police giving their second to last show of the final tour, and one of their best.
Sure would like to see Stevie again.:( Nobody could pogo across the stage on a Strat's headstock like him!

Me calling my wife about the Police concert...
Me: How interested are you in seeing The Police?
Her: (paraphrasing) Meh...how interested are you?
Me: Not $450 dollars worth...
Sorry boys, it's Christmas and there's no room in the "Budget Inn"

I'm going on the 16th as well. Loges was too steep for me as they went for $225.00 a ticket. I opted for the $75 ones. I saw them back in 1981 at the Blaisdell.
