Well, we've talked about the game (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=11759), how we watched it (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?p=130251), what we ate (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=11869), and how we might have seen it in HD (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=11666). But for a sports neophyte like me, Superbowl Sunday is all about the commercials. Yes, it's 90 percent hype... it's a ridiculous, recursive meta-exercise in Superbowl commercials being Superbowl commercials... just about the only time everyone is thinking specifically and critically about TV ads. But I like to see what people come up with for those multi-million dollar 30-second spots.
You can see the ads at iFilm (http://www.ifilm.com/superbowl), browse them organized by quarter at the CBS website (http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/postseason/superads), or vote for them at YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/superbowl).
Best ad? Worst ad?
I enjoyed Bud Light's "Fist Bump (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxC8zycxa4g)" and the Snickers "Kiss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHkoZ7ngAM0)." Points to Sprint for the cute concept behind "Connectile Dysfunction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNT1Y2sLLKU)."
I don't know quite what to make of Garmin's Japanese supermonster ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL3ccJDplzs).
I didn't like King Pharmaceutical's "Beat Your Risk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgc-8KTMtl8)" (missing a punchline, total downer) and, of course, GoDaddy.com's ads, which are self-referential to the point of being totally flat.
