Hi;

I need to ask a favor. By way of introduction I grew up in Hawaii but now live in Colorado. My parents still live in Kailua.

What are the 10 most innovative large companies in Hawaii in their use of IT? And what are the 5 most innovative state departments and 5 most innovative military units stationed there (again, in use of IT)?

I am asking because our Company (http://www.windwardreports.com/) has sold across the world and across the country. But no sales in Hawaii (and 2 other states). So I volunteered to try and see if we could find a couple of companies in Hawaii that could use out portal. (And any organization that generates lots of reports probably needs it.)

So, any suggestions on who I should try and talk to - I would appreciate the suggestions.

thanks - dave

umm, if you're in the IT field - wouldn't it be easier to do your own research on the net? You probably have better sources than most of us on HT. Just a suggestion :)

Most of the innovative companies in Hawai'i are not large. They are owned by entrepreneurs. And most large companies have their own inhouse programmers and IT staffs (and some, believe it or not, might not be Windoze shops!).

One large Hawai'i based company that needs lots of help is Hawaiian Telephone. They just fired BearingPoint and hired Accenture for their back office stuff. Trying to get an expense paid trip home, eh?:p

Lots of good stuff - like this (http://www.informationweek.com/iw500/2006/viewList/?sortby=Company). The problem is there are no Hawaii companies on the list. I've been through all the normal sources and can't find any Hawaii companies.

Very true. However, the smaller company the less reporting they tend to do. As to the inhouse programmers, they tend to love our stuff because no programmer wants to design reports. We free them up for more interesting work.

I'll try them. Probably no "official" trip over. But it annoys me that Hawaii is one of the 3 states we're not in yet. Going to make this happen.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is another one. They were trying to convert IT systems because of HIPAA but their multimillion dollar Epic+legacy+custom systems aren't working the way they planned (part of the reason why they are having money problems). Most of their IT stuff is based out of Oakland, CA, though.

Is there a certain sized business you need to find? Hawaii tends to have rather small businesses. If you need to hit larger ones, you'd have to go after the government or utility companies. There's no heavy industry or manufacturing. Geographic boundaries tend to limit the size of any service industry.

You're not kidding on the size of local businesses. Hit most of the ones of any significant size. And working the state government too.

The one place where I haven't been able to find the right people is the military. And there is a lot of that in Hawaii. So if anyone knows IT manager contacts in the military - by unit and/or individual, I would appreciate the info. (And in that case probably better to email it to me - david@windward.net)

thanks again - dave
