The newswire services are reporting a story about a Tokyo-->Dallas American Airlines flight that was diverted to HNL because a squirrel (http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2007/Feb/14/br/br4613827950.html)was found hitchhiking in the overhead storage bins on the plane. This created a delay in transit for the passengers on board.
Since Japan doesn't have grey squirrels, the rodent obviously must have originated in the US. But how could it have gone undetected from the US-->Tokyo in the first place?
You'da thunk somebody would have heard the scratching in the overhead bins on the way to Japan, too.
And instead of getting rewarded with frequent flyer miles for this escapade, the poor animal was put to sleep by Dept of Ag. staff in HNL because squirrels are illegal in Hawaii.:(
