Officials are worried Firearms Applications Jumped 27% in 2005.

I wonder why? Because no one can protect the Law Abiding Citizens! with all these crazies running around and getting out of the justice systems revolving door.

But these are legitimate gun purchases. BUT not one owner has been caught with using any acquired gun in a crime....DUH~! (the mainstream media has forgotten to mention this)

The guy who shot the deputy sheriff had a totally illegal gun (it had a silencer on it). A silencer is NOT legally obtainable in Hawaii. where did it come from?

I know of several friends that made purchases in 2005. Most of them purchased for recreational use. a few purchased them for protection after the 2006 Tantalus incident. I advised them to get the proper training in firearms and techniques.

Buying a gun legally is perfectly fine, and long as you know how to use it safely and also store it in a secure place so a kid can't get his hands on it (too many sad stories of kids shooting and killing their friends while playing "policeman" or "cowboy" or taking guns to their school and using it to kill fellow students) or it doesn't get stolen so that scum can use it to commit crimes like armed robbery or murder.

What if the off-duty sheriff's deputy who was murdered had been carrying his own weapon? Perhaps he would have been able to protect himself from the career criminal who just needed some rehab. Thank God the off-duty policeman in Salt Lake City had his weapon with him. Who knows how many more people would have died if he hadn't been able to corner the killer. Stories like the one from the Advertiser really annoy me because it seems like the agenda is to subtly convince the public that guns are the problem - not the criminals.
