i know i dont use capitilazation often (i'm too lazy, though i know better) but Capitalizing only Some or All Words Irritates Me more Then ALL CAPS or EvErY OtHeR LetTeR.
Wait, eVeRy 0tHeR LetTer Is WorSe.
Is this a new style, or do you not know that capitalization is only on the first letter of the sentence and on people and places?

Snippiness aside, I love asian movies too, action, romance, drama. So far they've remade alot of asian movies. Ring, Grudge, Infernal Affairs (The Departed). Soon The Host and many more will be remade for Amercian audiences.
You're talking romantic movies like My Sassy Girl, Densha Otoko, Fly Me to Polaris, etc?

I remember wen I started out. I didn't know nuttin about Internet Etiquette. It took time to learn the ropes and I still make mistakes as well as make my own rules! Wat I can't stand is when someone uses ALL CAPS AND ALL BOLD!

Back to the topic ~ I love Asian Movies. Especially, Yobo Movies!!:o My tears are non-stop. The Korean Men are HANDSOME!!! But the Pilipino Men are more good looking but no can ack.:p

I could care less about dee wahines.hahahaha

Anyone seen "the Host"? It's a recent Korean horror flick and it's pretty good. How about Oldboy? One of the best openings I've seen in a while.

I saw the Host, it was alright. I think theyre going to remake it.
Oldboy and the other movies that Park has done are pretty fricken weird.
IMDB says the american version of oldboy might be shelved. If you liked Oldboy check out his other movies, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.
I'd also recommend Save the Green Planet (http://imdb.com/title/tt0354668/) if you want something weird. Its like Oldboy, but I'd describe movie as Kpax meet se7en
I recently obtained a copy of Jackie Chans new movie Rob B Hood (http://imdb.com/title/tt0485976/) which I thoguht was great.

Other new action movies to look out for:
DOA (http://imdb.com/title/tt0398913/)
Dragon Tiger Gate (http://imdb.com/title/tt0482930/)

I saw The Host, too, and and really liked it. The movie was juggling a lot of things--horror, comedy, a dysfunctional family, an environmental message, a political commentary--and for the most part, pulled it off.

But I also agree with Hellbent, I think Hollywood is going to do a re-make. I think that there is much more creativity in the Asian movie industry than Hollywood, which is why there is so many re-makes of Asian films. Examples: The Ring (1 and 2), The Grudge, Shall We Dance, Dark Waters, Pulse, and this year's Academy Award winner, The Departed, are all based on Asian movies. One director (I think it was the one hired to do one of the "Grudge" movies) said that he thinks Hollywood has lost its creativity and looks to Asia (and elsewhere) for ideas. I think he's right.

LOL That's funny.

Reading some of your posts, I know you're a chef and will be moving here in the near future. One of the scenes early on in the movie involved dried squid, which is popular in Korea (and Japan and Hawaii as well [I don't now about Bermuda]). But in the movie, a customer was sold a dried squid with nine tentacles (there should be ten). It turns out the lazy son (who would turn out to be the hero in the movie) had eaten one of the tentacles before he sold it. So his father forced him to go back to the customer and apoligize and make amends. Before he could do it, though, the monster attacked. And all hell broke loose. That gives you an idea of what the movie was all about. You should search it out. You might enoy it.

But more often than not, you never hear Hollywood give much credit where credit's due. Didn't they even announce it wrong when The Departed won an award? Something like, "based on a Japanese film", etc etc?

I enjoyed "Memoirs of a Geisha" for the cinematography and story, but was a little dismayed that the actors who played the main female characters were all Chinese.:(

I love the Jackie Chan movies. I think they're a hoot. They're sooo campy!:)

Asian movies arent mired with all the stuff american movies are. John Woo and Chow Yun Fat in their prime made 3 movies a year. Of course they probably dont make the blockbuster pay, take more physical risks, and for the longest time ripped off american movies.

Departed is based on Infernal Affairs
I read that the remake of Host is shelved.

I prefer Jackie's Asian stuff to the American stuff. Hollywood thinks he cant do it alone, so always pairs him up with someone.

The truth is, in film, music, tv, etc, there will always be some form of rip off of someone else. But when you got it practically verbatim, it be nice to see appropriate acknowledgment. Especially Hollywood, they make a big stink about copyright, piracy, etc. Kinda be nice for them to live by their own words, right?

Hellbent

True, but they didnt just blatently rip off the movie, they licensed to remake IA1, however they used parts form IA2 and 3 as well.
Back in the 90's they used to make movies that sounded like the american ones, but with a totally different plot or starts off as the original, then veers off. Sort of like porn title names =p

Kung Fu Hustle, and Shaolin Soccer were both pee-in-your-pants hilarious.

Conversely, I took my Taiwanese faincee' to see "Hero" and she made me leave. Beautifully shot, but kinda boring.

Her dad owned a movie theatre in Taiwan while she was growing up, lots of Jackie Chan movies, and similar ilk, so I think the very sight of kung fu masters flying impossibly through the air gives her hives. :p

Wow, how cool is that! I wish my dad had owned a movie theater!
I dunno, there are other older movies that had people flying thru the air and doing sword energy attacks.
Well, how did she like Crouching Tiger?

Zatoichi, Bilnd Swordsman was pretty good.

And anything by Kurosawa.
Ran
Seven Samurai (The Magnificent Seven)
Hidden Fortress (what Star Wars was based on)
Yojimbo (Fistful of Dollars)

Yeah, I like the full feature Zatoichi movies! The 1 hour TV show episodes are not as good.

Some of my favorites of Kurosawa are non-samurai like Ikiru and Red Beard. They say Rashomon was one of his masterpieces but I thought it was boring. Maybe I could not see the deeper meaning to it?

I like certain Asian movies and T.V. shows, for their philosophical, moral, or emotional content that I don't often see in American ones.

Growing up I remember watching Zatoichi (blind swordsman). In theaters the Bruce Lee movies that bought out the Kung-Fu movies. I also liked the Japanese obake movies during the 70`s. Now day`s I like watching KIKU-TV especially Shoko ga Shi di tai.

Asian movies!

Anyone into trading here? I have a huge collection of movies from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, and filipines. Not to worry, all of them are PG 13 and not the rated X kind.

My favorites: Twilight Samurai, three, Naked Weapon, Feng Shui from Filipines, and so much more I cant even name them..

If you are into trading let me know and I can somehow post my list somewhere or even here!

I just saw 200 pounds beauty, its pretty good, but not great. I'd give it about 6. Or maybe its because I got melancholy when the girl sorta looked like my 1st gf...

The first time I stumbled onto Ichi the Killer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichi_the_Killer), all I could do was stare and mumble, "WTF?"

So Close (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300620/) was entertaining.

I'm partial to the action flicks but would watch other genres if the movie sucked me in.

If memory serves me correct, My Sassy Girl is Jeon Ji hyon. She was also good in Il Mare and windstruck.

I ve never really favored pure oriental women until recently. Always had hapa girlfriends and now a hapa wife. I guess it's because I had a pure Japanese mom and half sisters who were pure Japanese and were brats.

You should head over to Blockbuster Video and borrow 'Apartment 301/302'. It's a Korean movie, predictable in the end, but it is ever so fascinating to watch the lady cook! Warning though, THIS MOVIE IS ADULT MATERIAL, in contents and theme. Please do not let your children view this film.

i was gonna send you a review from amazon regarding that movie but you've blocked personal messages so i'll just provide the link:

http://www.amazon.com/301-302-Sin-Hye-Hwang/dp/1574922173

scroll down to a reviewer named M. Falk and tell me if you agree with his interpretation. i have a hunch that you'll disagree with him cuz you said that the end was so predictable... (Note: SPOILER ALERT! others shouldn't read it if you don't wanna know about the movie before seeing it.)

just wondering ;)

shaveice, I read M. Falk's review and to tell you the truth I didn't read that much into the movie. I suppose you could interpret any movie or book at any level (shallow or deep), but that would hurt my head too much. All I know is the movie was fascinating and if you get a chance, rent it.
