I have to say that, compared to NY, the incidence of patients admitted to the critical care units here with heroin-induced complications is mighty low. The drug of choice, of course, is usually ICE.
It seems, too, that shooting heroin is rather unpopular and "chasing the dragon" (smoking the burning vapors of heroin) is the preferred route here.
I saw my first case of spongiform leukoencephalopathy recently. Horrific brain damage suffered after the inhalation of heroin vapor. Very sad.
