HELLO ALL! My husband and I are moving to Waianae late this summer. We are both going to be employed at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. We are looking for any advice on where to live in the area. Any help would be much appreciated. THANKS

looking to rent or buy?

if so, go to the latest development, called 'Sea Country'... located nearby the place you will be employed at...

Yep...I have the same question. Condo or house?

I'm sure you'll get to know Lisa, the NP. She's a gem. The Malama Ola building is wonderful, complete with an exercise facility with a killer view! Anyway, that's not what you asked about and I'm sure you've seen it already.

The Waianae Coast is one of the least expensive areas on Oahu. Of course, depending on what area you're coming from it could still be a total shock! The plethora of tents on the beach attest to what's happened to the cost of living in Hawaii, in general, and the Waianae Coast in particular.

There's hardly any night life along the coast. Tamura's grocery store has the most reasonable prices. The beaches are gorgeous. And the wild goats on the ridge behind Comp are amazing to watch!

A search on HT should turn up a lot of info. Here are a few threads to start with:
#1 (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=10351&highlight=plantations), #2 (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=9291&highlight=makaha+elementary), #3 (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=9880&highlight=princess).

Makaha Valley Plantations will give you the most square footage.
Makaha Valley Towers is a bit more upscale and has 2 bedroom units.
The Hawaiian Princess is on a beautiful beach. Nice building, too.
Next door to the Princess is the Cabanas. To me, a strange floor plan as the bedroom faces the ocean and the living room faces the mountains.
Makaha Shores is right on Makaha's famous surfing beach (I'd looove to live there!)
Makaha Surfside is where I live and I love it. That said, I'm totally unenamored with the current management situation so don't recommend it for the time being.
Maili Cove, oceanfront, just east of WCCHC (toward town). Nice condos but kinda in the midst of the beachfront homeless situation.

Try googling on these properties for more info and also check out the buildings and locations via Google Earth.

Thank you SO much for the tips. Many of the suggested apartment communities look great. I am also checking out the other blogs now. I will likely be seeking more advise as the move approaches this summer. THANKS again!!
