Sweet ride, yo! Zatta HD Soft Tail? Congrats! The engine is a giveaway that it's not. The engine itself looks like it came out of a Honda Rebel (http://powersports.honda.com/images/model/c028_029_030_031_photos_all/motorcycles/2005/Rebel/LargeHoriz/Rebel_large_02.jpg). With that, I'm guessing the rest of the bike is made up of aftermarket parts.
After riding sportbikes with short rakes, when you jump on a Soft Tail, or anything with a long rake (the angle of the front forks), it's really weird. Plus, these bikes can be top-heavy.
Nice ride though. Congrats Lika! Looks like you'll be cruisin' around the island this weekend!

Yep. I stand corrected. I clicked the thumb and see that it's not a V-Twin. My bad. Still a sweet ride.

Sweet ride, yo! Zatta HD Soft Tail? Congrats! Thanks, JDub! You already know part of the answer (courtesy of Pomai), but it's amazing how many people do think it's a Harley!
Where's the side car? I wanna ride!I've seen several bikes with sidecars here in Hawaii, but there's none with mine. Have you (or anyone else here) ever ridden in a sidecar? I imagine it's a lot of fun! Noisy, though?
The engine is a giveaway that it's not. The engine itself looks like it came out of a Honda Rebel (http://powersports.honda.com/images/model/c028_029_030_031_photos_all/motorcycles/2005/Rebel/LargeHoriz/Rebel_large_02.jpg).Damn fine guess, Pomai! It's a clone of the Honda Rebel 250 engine. I'll post some links in a bit so you can find out about it.
After riding sportbikes with short rakes, when you jump on a Soft Tail, or anything with a long rake (the angle of the front forks), it's really weird. Yeah, I knew it would be different, but sheesh! I've had several bikes, including a Gold Wing and my last one before this, a Honda Shadow Ace. But nothing had raked forks like this. What a difference! Tricky at low speeds, but once you get it moving it's fine. Turning radius is different too, since the new bike has a 73" wheelbase.
Nice ride though. Congrats Lika! Looks like you'll be cruisin' around the island this weekend! Thanks, Pomai. Weather forecast doesn't look that good, though. Gonna be a wet weekend, looks like. Pfffbbbttt.

Although it looks like a Harley Davidson, the chopper is called a Spyder 250 and was built by well-known motorcycle customizer Johnny Pag of southern California. You can CLICK HERE (http://www.johnnypag.com/index.html) to see his website and all about the Spyder 250 and its sister bikes. It's a pretty amazing story.
The bike has a full-sized chopper frame, with a 73” wheelbase. It weighs in at only 360 pounds… top speed is supposedly 75mph, though I’ve heard rumors of closer to 90mph… and it gets 65 miles per gallon out of its 4.2 gallon tank. But the best is yet to come.
Ready?
Are you sitting down?
The price for a brand new Spyder 250 in Hawaii is… $4,995. No typo there. Only $4,995!!!
(And on the mainland they’re about a thousand bucks cheaper!)
You can CLICK HERE (http://docwhitecycles.com/) for the website of the dealer in Honolulu, Doc White Cycles, on Queen Street. (And the black bike on the front page of that website is exactly like mine. I put the photo here, below.)
These choppers have gotten excellent reviews from other owners, and that helped convince me to buy one. Also, there’s a brand new review of these motorcycles at this link (http://www.dnabd.com/temp/Doug/RiderMag_JohnnyPag.pdf) from RIDER magazine.
The Spyder 250 is probably 80% the fun of a stock Harley Davidson but at just 1/4 of the price. And with custom choppers running from $60,000 to well over $100,000, well, you do the math.

And if you're not into choppers and raked front ends, look at their Raptor 300. More of a cruiser bike; easier to ride and more comfortable. And I think it's about the same price! You can click here (http://docwhitecycles.com/JP-CYCLES.html) and my bike is on top and the Raptor 300 is the next one down.
May I ask what you're paying for insurance? Sure you can. You got my permission. Go ahead and ask.
:p
Nah, seriously, I'll let you know Monday when I get it insured. I think it's about $300 per year.

A 250cc single-cylinder motor is not exactly going to rumble very much... think of a sound more akin to a sewing machine---a sewing machine under abuse, that is. haha
Anyway, it's not a bike I would buy, but for a brand new bike that is about as good as a buyer can do on the price:appearance status.
Keep the rubber side down, and I hope to see you out on the road someday.

A 250cc single-cylinder motor is not exactly going to rumble very much... think of a sound more akin to a sewing machine---a sewing machine under abuse, that is. haha Um, Doug... "single cylinder"? It's a two-cylinder, four-stroke.
As for the sound, it's surely never gonna sound like a Harley, but a dealer in Denmark made two 18-second video files with audio -- you can click here (http://hjem.tele2adsl.dk/neoz/spyder/spyderstd.avi) to hear it with the stock pipes, and then click here (http://hjem.tele2adsl.dk/neoz/spyder/spyderfreeflow.avi) to hear it with straight pipes, about $300 installed.
Most people are surprised that even the stock pipes sound pretty good. Not sewing machinish at all.
Keep the rubber side down, and I hope to see you out on the road someday. Heading over to KYC this weekend or next Thursday night? Maybe I can meet ya there sometime and you can see it/ride it. PM me if you feel like it.

I'm 38 this year and have been planning to get a bike sometime before I hit 41.When I hit 41, I'll probably still be denying my age and riding a Yamaha YZF-R1 (http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/2004/2004-yam-r1-02-3.jpg).
My first love was my Honda Pearl White 1987 VFR700 (http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~john/vfr/specs/86-87-vfr700f2.html). Bought it in showroom condition from a military guy for a SONG! Rode that with my limited edition Arai Fred Merkel helmet (http://www.motorcycle.com/mo/mchonda/98vfr/main17.jpg).
God, those were the days. I'm probably still alive because I got rid of my bikes (mom's request). :o

I'm probably still alive because I got rid of my bikes (mom's request). I know what you mean. My first bike was a 1969 Honda 450 (http://home.comcast.net/~rdarke/cbk2hay.jpg). But before I was allowed to buy it, my wise parents insisted that I work in a hospital emergency room for a few weeks first. What an eye-opener. Ever since, I've been an extremely careful and very defensive bike rider.

Hmmm...birthday coming up...excuse me, I need to show something to the Alpha Female just now... According to the Dealers list on the builder's website, you should take the AF to Cycle Works in Renton, WA; (206) 652-5200. Is that close to you?
And one other thing. I said earlier that they're $4,995 here in Hawai`i and about a thousand bucks cheaper on the mainland, but on the builder's website I see that they say $3,395... over $1,500 less than here.
So, what does the AF say now?!?
:p
EDIT: Okay, I found you some links. You can click here (http://www.cycleworkswa.com/) for Cycle Works website, then click here (
http://www.cycleworkswa.com/new_vehicle_list.asp?sid=05200159X3K31K2007J7I26I3 8JPMQ2731R0&Manufacturer=1325&Category=1&CatDesc=Motorcycles) for the page with the Spyder and Raptor (and yes, they say $3,395 for the Spyder, but they don't quote a price for the Raptor), and just to push you and the AF along, click here (http://www.cycleworkswa.com/map_hours.asp) for their hours and a map to their dealership.

I respect others on the road and love to see and hear the rumble of a swarm of bikers. Ever been in Waikiki for the annual Toys For Tots ride? It's a short ride, just Magic Island to the Waikiki Shell (though various groups go on longer rides later that day). But you get 4,000 or so bikes riding through Waikiki, and the sound bouncing around and echoing off the 'concrete canyons' between all those tall hotels... yeeHAW!
The tourists line the sidewalks, and most of the younger ones keep yelling and signalling to twist the throttle and make 'em roar. Funny stuff, though I always felt sorry for anyone trying to sleep in and, especially, for the poor animals in the Honolulu Zoo. I think they may have changed the Toys For Tots route because of the zoo (or at least I hope they did).

Well I've always felt if it's good for the goose...
Have you seen how close motorcyclists follow cars? They make motorists feel insecure already with their loud potato exhaust. Uncapped Harleys make this rough idle that sounds like this: potato potato potato po po po potato potato :D Then when they take off it sounds like this: PooooooooooooTaaaaaaaaaTooooooooooo...oooooooooooo .oooooooo:eek: And wake up every sleeping infant in the cars they pass including mine:mad: And they wonder why I love to play chicken with them as they ride the median coming from another direction.

I don't tailgate motorcycles. For the most part, I feel a need to be extra safe and considerate around them. But I cannot stand cocky moped riders. Talk about natural selection. Is it a pedestrian? Is it a bicycle? Is it a car? Is it a motorcycle? It's all those things! Whatever's convenient! On the sidewalk, in the gutter, on the shoulder. a total pain in the arse.
When people think I've made a right on red too late in front of them (not my reading on it), and they feel compelled to try to get their SUV to hump my VAN, I decide it's time to do the speed limit. One of those "union think" stick-by-the-rules approach.
I guess that's off topic. Bikers just tend to be a bit more edumacated than moped riders.

Do cars tailgate motorcycles any more than they tailgate other cars or is it the motorcycle rider's proximity to the tailgating car that causes said motorcycle rider to be more conscious of it? Heh. No, some of the cars were within a yard of me. Whatever happened to that old concept of staying one car behind for every 10mph of speed? At 30mph, they should've been at least a couple of car lengths back... not just a couple of feet.
And I should clarify my earlier post. I didn't mean to imply that all cars tailgate motorcycles, but there were several today.
Have you seen how close motorcyclists follow cars? Actually, no, I don't recall noticing that. But if some motorcycle runs into the back of my SUV, it's not me or anyone in my SUV who's going to get hurt.

And wake up every sleeping infant in the cars they pass including mine:mad: And they wonder why I love to play chicken with them as they ride the median coming from another direction. Wow. That reaction seems extreme. Do you do that to big noisy trucks and semis too? To cars with insanely loud stereos blasting? Or just to motorcycles?

"A 25-year-old man and his 26-year-old girlfriend were injured late Friday night when the motorcycle they were riding was rear-ended by a pickup truck in Waipahu.
"Emergency responders said the motorcyclists were thrown an estimated 20-30 feet and landed on the road surface of the ramp that connects the west-bound lanes of Farrington Highway with the north-bound lanes of Kunia Road."

The part that really ticks me off about the whole thing is these robbers are also stealing bikes during the daytime and in parking lots! I hope store owners have places where bikes can be chained up to keep them from being stolen while customers are out running errands. It's bad enough that these guys take bikes from peoples' garages, but in the middle of the day, in full view of the public too?!

I must say, that is a stylish bike for the price! Hell, that is an awesome bike period for the price! I can not wait to see one in person! And with a price tag like that I might pick one up real quick!
Sorry to hear about the cagers in HI too. Here, cars act like bikes don't even exist and can make for some very hairy riding experiences. If I am ever involved in a motorcycle related accident, I know it will not be me fault. I hate the tailgater's that ride the fender. You want to speed up to get out of the way, but if I am already at the legal limit(give or take 8-10mph) I am not moving. No tickets needed for me.
Here in VB,VA, the cops have cracked down a bit on aggressive driving. Even in a car, if a cop sees you riding someones a$$, you can and more then likely WILL get a ticket. Bike safety is a paramount issue on the roads, and it is always a shame to hear of riders down. I am not the show type rider, just like to cruise, but when I see a kid on a rice rocket doing wheelies down the highway, it makes sense that so many bike accidents here are young Navy kids.

I really like the looks of your bike.
My first was a 1969 Honda 750! The first year Honda came out with them, although I got mine in 1979. Here's a link. Mine's was blue! ;)
http://www.gaastra.cc/klassieke%20motorplaatjes/Honda%20CB750-1969.jpg
Actually that last statement was incorrect. The 750 was my first street bike. I bought a 1976 Honda 70 brand new from my newspaper route money. And used to ride it at Sand Island before it was a park. Busted it all up after a couple of years jumping over the dunes. HaHa!

Wow. That reaction seems extreme. Do you do that to big noisy trucks and semis too? To cars with insanely loud stereos blasting? Or just to motorcycles?Don’t know too many residential neighborhoods that have semis running through them, but depending on the song, car audio systems can hardly be compared to the loud, unforgiving sonic boom of a Harley Davidson speeding down the road. One makes you want to dance, sing, or cry. The latter just pisses you off.
Oh, and there’s no volume control. :p

If that's the policy then that sucks. You as the mother should qualify I would think. If it weren't for you giving birth to them, then they wouldn't be in the military in the first place.
Maybe the HSF would give you an exemption
Question to ponder? Why would a Mom of a soldier not be considered that soldiers "Family"?
will offer free "Mahalo" O'ahu coastal cruises for active-duty military personnel and their families,That would really suck if the military doesn't consider you to be a part of your childrens family.
And to keep this on topic -
