I wanted to get me a new lipstick and went to Longs this morning and found a really pretty color that is very much of the brownish-taupish-reddish-beigy shades I love the most. It is this new lip plumping formula and DAMN if it doesn't feel like my lips are going through a round of chemo at this very second! Just applied it and had to write about it....faugh-ugh-ugh-ck meeee....

now it feels like I have a layer of vicks rubbed into my lip dermis. Much more tolerable.
Lips aren't noticably plumper, at least not to me. Lipstick has a shiny shelac effect, but not too porkchop greasy.
Still evaluating if I should rally up a class action lawsuit against Physician's Formula for such a product...

Bare Minerals has one called Buxom...It would burn like heeeacck if you had chapped lips. But is tolerable for those with healthy lips.
Maybe they plump your lips by making them swollen with agony! :D

what is in these things?? I looked on PF's website and clicked on the ingredients. The second one is "synthetic beeswax", which made me blink for a few minutes, trying to understand what that meant and how it is allowed to be put on a label.

I always hear about the burning sensation with those products and I wimp out. I figure I'd be the one person with a severe reaction and walk around with burnt lips for weeks.

Wow. That's some list.

This is just a guess but I'm thinking that the active ingredient is an irritant that causes localized vasodilation.
That would explain the plumping and burning effect.

It is so beneficial to have a nurse in the house. So that's how they achieve the plumping? Vasodilation? Makes sense. Of course telling women that it will feel like their lips are being sucked off would probably lead to diminished sales.

This is just a guess here and I'm open to other guesses/theories. :)
I found this article that discusses the products. I am still thinking "irritation/vasodilation/plumpitude," especially after reading a few reviews where users mentioned how red their lips became after applying the product.

Please note Tip #4. Expand upon the "kissing" theme. Now imagine the possible consequences.

a lot of the more tingly plumping lip glosses use something like capsicum...which is the stuff that makes jalapenos and other peppers hot. so yeah, not surprising that they're irritating. tho i'm a cosmetics whore, i won't buy the stuff. ever seen someone have an allergic reaction on their lips? i have, and it aint pretty.
my suggestions, even tho this won't get you insta-inflato-angelina jolie-life raft lips:
1. moisturize your lips often, either with a moisturizing lipstick, gloss or balm. i often go to bed with a lip balm on. i like the ones victoria's secret and rosebud (the strawberry one is yummy, and can be had at sephora for about $8.00. it's also great for dry cuticles). DCT by blistex is my fave drugstore brand.
2. after you brush your teefs in the morning, lightly run your toofbrush over your lips. DO NOT do this if your lips are chapped--instead, use a wet washcloth. trust me, it hurts like hell to split your own lip by using toofbrush on chapped lips. yeeeeeoooooooow!!
3. wear lighter-hued lipsticks with shine or glosses. dark hues and matte finishes make your lips look thinner. or, if you like the look of dark hues, make sure to swipe gloss right down the middle of your lower lip. the contrast will make your lips look fuller.
my fave glosses for everyday are by sugar (sephora, about ten dollars). they have sheer, pretty hues, and aren't grossly tacky. the best part is that they're pretty yummy--they taste faintly sweet, like cotton candy, but not in a cloying way. boyfriend likes kissing me when i wear this.
for a more glam look, i like mac's glosses (i think they're about $13). neutral in taste, not too tacky, very moisturizing and the colors are multidimensional in a pretty but not vegas-y way (well, you could wear them that way if you want. ask me and i'll teach you how to get that look if you like).
loreal's glosses are very nice, also. same thing--not too tacky, pretty colors, very moisturizing. also, they're about half the price of sugar or mac's glosses.
if you want to splurge, i suggest dior's glosses. they're $18 i think but again, neutral in taste, not tacky, pretty colors, moisturizing.

:D hahaha...funnily enough, despite my cosmetic whore-dom and propensity to collect four different foundations, about twenty lipsticks/glosses, ten blushes and almost thirty eyeshadows, i get my "office face" done in about about eight minutes (the ride from the beau's home to my office, when he drives). if it's a weekend, i often don't wear make up or just smear on one of my foundations (the one that is gel-based, sweat-resistant and has 20spf and is by laura mercier) and some mascara (loreal voluminous or revlon fabulash--i can't bring myself to spend more than a few bucks on something i throw away every three months) plus the aforementioned sugar gloss. of course, i can take half an hour for my "date with the beau" or "going out with the girls" face...and i promise you it'll last the whole night with a minimum of touch ups!
the sweet thing is that eric says i look equally beautiful no matter how much effort i put into my make up.
wait. maybe that's not so sweet.

Maybe it would appeal to men...as a lower region additive!:p
Mine has Euclyptas and menthol in it.
I like menthol in my lip gloss....makes me feel all springy!

Since I started Bare Minerals I have cut my cosmetics by 80% .
Yet I remain a fabric whore.
And I have a newly found purse addiction. So it all evens out!

Any SPF factor here? Sounds like a great product and I am willing to try it. But being of Celtic/European heritage, I need some SPF stuff.
I'm presently using Neutrogena Visibly Even True Beige foundation(SPF 20). Very light, non-greasy. Followed by Almay Clear Complexion Light powder (yes, I am that white). I know, I know---you are not supposed to mix brands. But I have aways been a bit of a rebel.
"Spackle"? LOL!
I scrub my face with Lever soap. Slather Pond's Dry Skin Cream after, then wipe with a washcloth soaked with cool water. Gets the flakes off and moisturizes at the same time.
Cheap and effective. If I am feeling like I need to do something more I do the Pond's Five Minute Revival and the Pond's Dermabrasion thing.
Any breakouts and I slap on some triple antibiotic ointment overnight. The mini-zits are gone by morning, most times.
So now what do I do about the witch's hairs that are showing up with increasing frequency? I love the ones that only appear as you are looking in the sideview mirror while driving eighty MPH on the H-3. WTF is up with THAT?? Hey, I TWEEZED this morning. What did I do in a former life that God is now sentencing me to a five-o'clock shadow at noon?

Bare Minerals SPF is standard of 15. But I think ou can get more. I use Oil of Olay SPF 20 then the Bare Minerals. with SPF 15. Not that I care much about SPF. But it all comes in it so I don't worry about it.

Bare Minerals is fantabulous. I love how natural it is to wear, doesn't feel like you are wearing makeup. Yes, it's SPF 15 which is pretty much what my moisturizers are as well.

I am at this point in my life that I have ceased to experiment with funky colors, nor mega store brands of makeup. Physicians Formula has long been regarded as great quality makeup and cheap as hell. They have mineral formulas as well and I enjoy them. I wear a little foundation mixed with moisturizer, my blusher/bronzer finds its way on my cheekbones and eyelids, my eyebrow powder goes on my brows and my eyelids, I use a little bit of liquid eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. Voila; a natural look of corals and browns under 5min and I am good to go anywhere for the whole day.
If it wasn't for that danged lipstick having the dual pleasure of being that right color and currently on sale, I would have *never* bought a freaking product whose key ingredient is chili peppers! My little shrub out back could give me that same sensation for free (I only eat chili peppers after they sit in the freezer or drink it as the chili pepper water that my husband makes).

I am not a fan of cpw on delicacies like poke. I like to taste the different items in the poke itself, and cpw can overpower them. I do like chili peppers in the poke, but in sparse amounts.
I am apt to drink it with heftier foods like beef stew, hamburger curry, and pork adobo. And I drink it separately, which is how I am used to seeing it consumed (my side, my inlaws, we all spoon cpw).
