how do you differentiate between Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian? Because Sudden Rush belongs more in that Hawaiian category than Hapa ever will.

I agree with most of the Hawaiian artists, I just have different non-Hawaiian tastes.
Speaking of HAPA, my wife and I went to their concert in New York City this past Wednesday night. It was in a smallish theater close to Lincoln Center and they were terrific! It was a surreal transplendent experience because it was about 40 degrees outside and raining but inside the Aloha spirit was very warm and inviting. There was a point where they invited the hula dancers in the crowd to dance on stage for one song. About 30 women and 2 men went on stage and it felt like home.

defining Hawaiian music has been a battle waged for years.
Do the artists, by virtue of their koko, make their music Hawaiian?
Does the kani (chalangalang) make the music Hawaiian?
Does the 'olelo make the music Hawaiian?
Hapa does beautiful chalangalang and harmonies. Their puana of Hawaiian words however, is very kapulu (borders on gross).

I've always thought of Sudden Rush as Hawaiian music. Ku'e!
During the song Polynesian Party my boys throw up their hands during the "Hawaiians in the house" part. It's getting to the point that my 9 month old does it as well, while smiling like a ham. When they yell, "PARTY" the bebe yells, "Teeeeeeeeeee" while waving his hands all over the place. He has no clue what he's doing, he just thinks it's fun.

Into Loggins and Messina? Love their music. Lotta respect for Jim Messina.
Zero respect for Kenny Loggins, for non-music reasons.

What'd Kenny do?
I don't enjoy his solo stuff after the duo with Jim.
My brother was so cool that he took my to their concert at HIC early 70's. :D

My former b-i-l (my ex-husband's sister's ex-husband...got that? :D ) was the drummer for L&M during their heyday. Then he went over to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. My kids got some great seats to some great concerts! In spite of already being an ex at that time, I was a huge L&M fan. Didn't Emme Tomimbang date one of 'em back in the day?
Hmmm...I'm not sure exactly what the OP means by "Hawaiian" and "Non Hawaiian" artists.

What'd Kenny do? Something outrageously inappropriate to the wife of a close friend of his.
