I just got my Masterworks schedule in the mail today. I was hoping to subscribe, but if that happens it won't be until after I graduate in August. Not so much because of the time investment but because money's tight and the new degree will bring a few extra bucks.

Highlights for me:

Opening night with Sarah Chang. Love me some Sarah.
Not to mention the debut of new Principal Conductor Andreas Delfs.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in November and Brahms's Symphony No. 4 in December.
Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1 in May.

It's a good-looking season. I'm kind of stoked. Hope I can swing the subscription this year.

Sarah Chang is not only beautiful but an amazing performer! I thought I also saw an appearence by Burt Bachrach as well. I know Marvin Hamlisch came down a few months ago. My auntie loved the show!

Bacharach is scheduled to perform with the Pops. I wonder if he'll do the GEICO song. And ditto on Sarah Chang. Saw her last time, met her, got an autograph, and didn't sleep well for the next few nights.

I thought Bacharach was on the Masterworks flyer I received in the mail, perhaps not. I know he came down a couple years ago and put on a great show. He is not a good singer, never was, but his stories behind his music and the people singing those hits made it a eventful evening.

Do you know the other performers slated to appear with the Pops next season?

new Principal Conductor Andreas Delfs.Nice catch for Honolulu - Delfs did some great work with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in recent years (in addition to the Milwaukee gig.) I admire the newer generation of conductors who are showing a strong commitment to contemporary classical compositions.

I saw a Pops schedule somewhere, but couldn't find it on the website.

I am optimistically skeptical about Delfs, only because I know almost nothing about him and I was a huge fan of Dr. Samuel Wong. Maestro Wong is maybe my favorite conductor.

I was a huge fan of Dr. Samuel Wong. Maestro Wong is maybe my favorite conductor. He's got some great concepts for examining and comparing Western and Eastern classical music; he's done some wonderful recordings for Naxos, with the Hong Kong PhilOrch. I don't know much about his "musical healing" research, however - gonna have to dig deeper into that.

Did you just see him with Samuel Ramey at their "Devil" concert? Man, what a voice Ramey has; I used to hear him back in the Midwest decades ago.
