What software is out there for simple home design needs?
I would like to be able to digitally sketch out the layout of the rooms in my house so that I can (1) do a better job of estimating materials needs when I plan for home improvement projects, and (2) have a record of my home's specs that I can access easily without having to haul out old blueprints. 3D would be really nice, but 2D is OK.
I'm not an architect or an engineer, and I don't want to learn (or spend the money on) AutoCAD. In fact, I'm super cheap and would rather use a freeware solution if possible. Are there decent software tools out there for this purpose?
