thanks for the head's up. i'm not a huge fan of a flock but i loved the concept (was it on mtv?) of bands reunited or something like that. a flock of seagulls got back together and put on a show and it was cool to see them rock again!

one of the reasons i liked the show (bands reunited) is because each group was unique in terms of its members: some wanted to do it, some didn't want anything to do with their past lives, etc...

yup, he always struck me as a guy who had his head on straight. it's awesome that they've kept on playing through the years...

So who's actually got tickets and are going to the Huey Lewis concert (http://starbulletin.com/2007/05/01/features/story03.html) tomorrow? Interesting to have stand-up comedy by Augie T as an opening act. If you do, please give us a full report!

80's flashbacks continue in Honolulu next week with "Ladies of the 80's (http://krater96.com/ads/ladies80s.html)" - Lisa Lisa, Expose & Sweet Sensation - performing next week at Pipeline Cafe.

Hell if I'm putting back on any Cavaricci's or parachute pants. But I still love 80's metal!

Never cared for Huey Lewis, but I did see A Flock perform at the UH in the mid-80s, if my memory serves me correctly. Lead guitar Paul left the group before the trip over here...his replacement didn't quite get the guitar riffs right. Anyway, they sounded like their records, which was great. I wonder if all the original members are coming? Would be interesting to see them again.

With so much hairspray, it would take a jackhammer just to trim it. :p

Me? I was stuck with an Andy Bumatai's 70's surfer 'do. Never gotten a mullet.

The only good thing about the 80's is the red-and-white hot shorts ... when it's on a girl. ;)

I'm going. The wife and kid, too. We're making the kid go. He'd rather stay home and play video games.

:D

Ah, remember when the best videogames were Space Invaders and Pong?

(Actually my personal favorite is the Crazy Climber ... or something.)

Leave it up to us to pass this to our kids.

I enjoyed Huey Lewis and the News concert tonight. It was a great concert. They announced tonight that Asia will be coming in concert on August 11 and Los Lonely Boys on Sept. 20.

Yeah! Enjoyed that very much. Huey ROCKED the house.

Started with Heart of Rock & Roll and the pace barely slowed throughout. Huey plus 8 other musicians. Large band for a rock and roll group. Trumpet, baritone and tenor sax, plus Johnny Colla, who swapped between sax and Stratocaster; drums, bass, searing lead guitar, and keyboards. I didn't get all the guys' names, (Shame on me!) but they put on a great show, even doing a couple of a capella numbers.

The audio was kinda crappy throughout. It was bad to start, improved slightly after a few songs, but it never really progressed beyond mush. All the instruments and Huey's vocals were just mashed together at the same volume. The bass was pushed too hard (thanks, hip-hop audio fans). Even the drums had trouble punching out at appropriate points.

All in all, though, I shouldn't complain. I've waited years to see Huey and group, live. It was well worth the wait and the money. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

Years ago, I thought of printing up a bunch of t-shirts to share with audio engineer friends. In bold letters on the back of the shirt, it would say:
THAT'S THE WAY THE BAND WANTS IT. *

(* = For those needing explanation, that's the stock answer you give when someone attending a concert comes up to you, the engineer, to complain about any aspect of the mix.)

Na Alii & Monkey Man, sounds like the show turned out great. Thanks for the reviews! How was Augie T's opening comedy performance?

Augie T was funny as usual.

Ho, yah. Augie was a scream! I got nerjous when he started talking about edible panties, but he kept it clean enough to confuse the 12-year-old while adults howled all around him! :D
