I'm still on the Hawaii GOP mailing list from when my mom was running for Senate. Got a very interesting hit piece today - trashing the Hawaii GOP.

That's right - an email from a group within the Hawaii GOP trashing Lingle, etc for ideological impurity. I guess the GOP is so dominant in Hawaii that they can have these public fights while retaining control of... uh... oops...

Copy of the email here (http://www.davidthielen.info/politics/2007/05/hawaii_gop_self.html)

This is making the rounds, and it isn't from the Hawaii GOP. It's from a couple of fascists who have swiped the mailing list.

I have to admit it's well written. You start off believing it's legit, then you're thinking that it's making it's point badly. Then I was going - huh? I have to admire how it is put together.

So tell me, do you think the wingnuts who did this truly believe that the GOP could win more seats if only they were more conservative? Can they truly be that clueless?

Or do they figure they will never get a majority and might as well be ideologically pure even if it means just 2 - 3 seats in the legislature?

My guess is door number two, they've just given up

These guys are a gift that keeps on giving. Another mailer today (they are really going to annoy a lot of people if they keep sending one a day). This one just makes them look like crybabies - mailer here (http://img407.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hawaiigop3cg0.png).

I definitely have mixed feelings about this. As a Democrat I take joy in watching the GOP fringe self-destruct. But as an ex-resident of Hawaii I feel bad for Hawaii because it needs a strong 2 party system to improve the government.

Maybe this is what the GOP needs though - have the wingnuts leave the party and the GOP can be the moderate-right alternative to the Democrats.

Hawaii Republicans aren't like Mainland Republicans -- maybe because they're on the fringe most of the time, they're a bit more tolerant.

Got another email today - this email is less credible than someone with 15 million in Nigeria asking for help. They apparently "found the person to save the GOP" (http://www.davidthielen.info/politics/2007/05/a_hero_to_save_.html) on the internet.

Watching from Colorado I think a lot of it is pretty funny.
