I was disappointed that my favorite one 'I Am Hawaii' didn't make the list. I grew up listening to music from the late 50s/60s, namely rock and roll...Hawaiian music was something only heard at May Day pageants or parades but that one song 'I Am Hawaii' was and is still so beautiful in both music and lyrics. I'm glad that the Moanalua High School band keeps it in its repertoire.

Mistake on the thumb. I wanted to add the thumb to the Moanalua High School band, instead the thumb went on the Honolulu Magazine's line which makes it look like I think they did a good job when I don't. :o

Thanks for posting the link! :D
As I was scannning down the list.........
I was wonderinng if Kalapana was gonnna appear. They made a huge impact in Hawaiian Music when they debut onto the scene in the 70's and Malani Bilyeu is my cousin btw on my fathers side. And yessssss "NightBird" made the list!
Would have been good to have seen Danny Couch's upbeat track "Ahhhh My Hawaii" LOL on there also. :(

4. Hi'ilawe "author unknown"??? WTF? All my life I heard it was Sam Li'a of Waipi'o who wrote that song.
11. Blue Hawaii?!?!!?!?!?!?!?! Aaarrrggghhh! Just call me Lilo and let me tell you how 'ohana means never getting left behind...
How the HELL is Hawaii Ponoi at 13? Two behind Blue Hawaii, which doesn't belong there at all?!?!?!
Thank God Israel's Somewhere Over the Rainbow is way down in the 30s (where Kawaipunahele also belongs, at least). How the heck people consider that to be a song about Hawaii I'll never know...I think of two other locations first: Kansas and Oz.
I just saw Lei Pikake show up. At all. Quick! Hold my hair!
Why is Ke Alaula almost an afterthought? I've a thought: take out Kawaipunahele and put in Mehameha/White Sandy Beach instead. Bump Kawaipunahele into Lei Pikake's slot, toss Lei Pikake in the rubbish, and the list is much more realistic, well, after we sub out Elvis for Pearly Shells/Pupu A'o Ewa.
Kudos to the first 10, though. Pretty solid allocation (save for the missing Hawaii Ponoi)

Why is Harry Owns on there twice, and Sol Hoopii, one of the best Hawaiian Steel guitarists ever, not on it at all?
Why is Kalapana dead last!?
Oh, and didn't Liko Martin write "Nanakuli Blues" only to have Country Comfort change the words to "Waimanalo Blues"?

Word. That's one of my favorites, and I was surprised not to see it on the list.
