I wonder how much bail is needed for this "crime."

Hmmm. Could work for our dog too. If left out of her enclosure, she'll take a dump everytime. Same place, same area of our living room carpet. It now has a permanent brown stain. Oh yeah, the other dog barfs on the carpet as well. We can leave her in the tiled patio and she'll start heaving and head over to the carpet.

May I ask where you heard this? I just did a search of the Hawaii Revised Statutes and couldn't find it. I entered "laugh" and got nothing. I entered "ten o'clock (http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/site1/docs/searchhrs.asp?press1=docs&query=ten+o%27clock&currpage=1)" and got two results, but neither had anything to do with this topic. It's possible I'm not entering the right query, or that the search engine isn't working correctly, but I did a test run with "landlord (http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/site1/docs/searchhrs.asp?press1=docs&query=landlord&currpage=1)" and got 78 returns.
Could it be a county law somewhere?
edited:
I can't find it in the revised charter (http://www.honolulu.gov/refs/rch/) of the city and county of Honolulu, either, but the search engine doesn't seem to be as muscular as for the HRS.

I love hearing about the old laws, some of them are really amusing. In VA, there is still a law on the books stating that there needs to be someone in front of your vehicle, 100 yards, ringing a bell, to notify people that a car is coming. Or that on Sundays, you can beat your spouse in the courthouse steps with a stick no larger in circumference then your thumb.

Did you know that if you decide to stand with your shopping cart next to a particular product at Costco or Sam's Club, that without fail, someone must come and examine that particular product? Say you want to make a phone call to inquire about purchasing a backyard umbrella, an assortment of kids snacks, or to decide about which meat or fish you should get. So you figure to be polite, you'd go park your shopping cart to have minimal impact on the other shoppers. But because you've decided to park next to the pile of horse sh*t you're certain won't interest anyone, you've actually become a magnet for fans of horse sh*t. It's an interesting phenomenon. That is funny. There are software programs that are in place in a lot of stores that monitor people for more then security reasons. People that stay idle in a spot for "X" amount of time, will set a beacon alerting the video/security booth to inform employees of someone in X isle needs help.
Did you know the expression, "it will cost an arm and a leg" comes from days of old. Only rich people could afford to have full body portraits painted of themselves, and the painters normally charged by the appendages. So a simply portrait shot might not be that much, but add torso, arms and legs, then you are looking at some serious money, hence costing an arm and a leg.

In Honolulu within the limits of any public park, it is unlawful to annoy any bird. (SEC. 10-1.2)
(a) Within the limits of any public park, it is unlawful for any person to:
...
(5) Annoy, molest, kill, wound, chase, shoot or throw missiles at any animal or bird;
Interesting, but not really surprising. "Leave the birds alone," seems to be the law. It turns out that yesterday when I was trying to find the "laugh after 10 p.m." law, I was looking in the wrong place for Honolulu County: When I skimmed the table of contents for the Revised Charter, I saw that everything there was purely organizational. What I wanted was the Revised Ordinances of Honolulu (http://www.honolulu.gov/refs/roh/), which helped me track down the reference above. Very useful.
Laws are so stupid. When you make a law and you use words like "any" or "all," you get stuff like this:
(b) Except as authorized by permits, and subject to the terms and conditions imposed by the department of parks and recreation, it is unlawful for any person, within the limits of any public park, to:
(1) Cut or remove any wood, plant, grass, soil, rock, sand or gravel;
I daresay we've all violated this law countless times. ANY grass? ANY soil? ANY rock? ANY sand? Of course we don't want people DIGGING STUFF UP or STEALING stuff, but "removing" ANY "wood, plant, grass, soils, rock, sand, or gravel" is an impossible act to avoid, regulate, or penalize. Pisses me off.

A somewhat kindred phenomenon occurs whenever the only two runners who happen to be out and within in a radius of 20 miles from each other are out getting their training in at a given point in time. What happens is that the running routes of the two runners will always, without fail, regardless of the time of day (it could be 5 AM or 10 PM) come to a confluence where the only bicyclist or a pair of walkers is for miles, necessitating one of the runners take evasive action to avoid contact with each other and/or the bicyclist or walkers. It's a given that the above described event will occur wherever I run, be it the East Bay Bike Path in RI or the Mokulua/Aalapapa Loop in Kailua.

More useful...did you know that the food our veterinarians sell is NOT the best that can be had, on island or anywhere else, probably?? The more my daughter has studied up on this and I mean for years, and educated me on it, the more surprised I am that the names of brands she has given me, and I read the labels online....I am shocked that the kibble for dogs and cats...the best few brands are not sold in any vet's office that I have yet to find.
Some animal breeders and some pet stores on island do sell what is truly the best ingredients if and when people can afford it. It comes to about two dollars a pound but is more nutritious and many animal lovers that report about these lesser-known brands do report at animal forums that their animal eats less, poops less on the best kibbles and therefore that it's financially worth it to buy the best.
(daughter's vet. tried to get her to buy one of the brands in the office while her cattle dog was already on something better)

Did you know there actually was a fort on Fort Street in Honolulu?
Back in the early 1800's, Russian fur traders were coming to the islands for fruit, vegetables and meat. One of those ship captains, Yury Lisyanski considered taking over Hawaii, without the knowledge or permission of the Russian Emperor.
In 1815 the Russians built a fort at Honolulu Harbor and another one near Waimea, Kauai. Upon hearing about this, King Kamehameha I expelled the Russians from the fort. Then under Governor John Adams Kuakini, the fort was rebuilt to become the largest structure in the islands during that time.
By the 1850's, the fort fell into disrepair and was torn down. Some of its rubble remains are still visible today in the waters off Nimitz highway across the Amfac building.
Fort street began where the fort was located approximately where Nimitz Highway is today, and ran all the way up to Pacific Heights Drive. At around 1898, it became Hawaii's first paved street.

[...]More useful...did you know that the food our veterinarians sell is NOT the best that can be had, on island or anywhere else, probably??[...]
Altho' this is dated information (told to my dad during a dog food commercial shoot in the 1950s :D ), the technology is (was back then!) available to treat fleas via dog food. That isn't (wasn't?) done because, at that time, 75% of all dog food purchases were for human consumption. While the camera was rolling during one take, the dog, who was trained (and starved!) to run into frame and start gobbling his food decided to, instead, run into frame, sniff and lift his leg on the bag of kibble, propped for camera next to the food dish! :D
Possibly in this day and age, dog food prescribed by and sold thru vets addresses this problem. Dunno as I haven't had an animal at home...the furry kind!!!...in at least 20 years.
Come to think of it, why isn't heartworm treated via food rather than a pill? I dog sat for a friend in the 1990s and that pooch always rebelled against that pill! Or is that no longer an issue?

It (http://www.gasco-propane.com/Files/safety.html) certainly smells dangerous enough to think to yourself, "hey buddy, anymore of this stuff leaks out and you're as good as a Thanksgiving Turkey".
Many warehouses use propane-fueled forklifts due to their clean burning characteristics, which is safe for indoor use. You get the best of both worlds with propane: the low/safe emmissions and operational cost of electric, along with (relatively) superior power provided by an internal combustion engine. Plus, you don't have to wait for battery cells to recharge. Just refill the propane tank (takes just minutes), and and you're good to go.

Sue, LOL about the kibble commercial. Thanks for sharing.
The heartworm and other things that are treated are in what to me looks like a chewable pill. I've seen one daughter just put it in our Aussie's mouth and make him swallow it since he doesn't like its taste. he has never gagged or anything and it goes right down, but then she has the touch and knows just how to do it. I'd be afraid to try it and never have.

So they make 40,000 gallons of propane every day?
That's per product as they also produce HD-5 Propane, but that 40K sounds a bit on the low side so I'm thinking they run a couple of batches of both standard and HD-5 stuff.
40,000 gallons would be the equivalent of eight standard propane tankers so I'm sure Tesoro's propane output is higher. Also Cheveron manufactures propane as well.

Propane uses Ethyl Mercaptan and Natural Gas uses Tetrahydrothiophane as odorants to the tune of 25PPM.They should come out with a propane odorant that smells like hickory or mesquite (kiawe), that doesn't burn off, but actually imparts its flavor into the food meat barbecued with it.

Did you know? When Magic Island, the vision of Henry Kaiser, was finally completed in 1972, a Star Bulletin poll was conducted to gather votes for an appropriate name for it, which included:
• Duke Kahanamoku Park
• Ala Moana Island
• Leapuna (coral promontory)
• Kuikahi (peaceful, quiet)
• Mokuokala (island of the sun)
• Moku Lealea (pleasure island)
Apparently "magic" must be indicative of it being built over a reef, which surely was a feat of that time, like the reef runway.
Politics must have stopped it from being considered being named "Kaiser Park", which would have been the most logical name for it.

Did you know? Jack Lord of Hawaii 5-O fame (http://mjq.net/fiveo/) was seriously considered to play the roll as Captain Kirk on Star Trek. But his conditions were that he co-produce and own a percentage of the show, which the creator was unwillling to accept, and cast William Shatner instead.
I think Jack Lord would have made a great Captain Kirk, and that would have been a cool way to tie the show with roots to Hawaii. Perhaps instead of a character named Sulu, they might have had a "Danno" instead. "Beam me up, Danno". lol
What's an interesting similarity between Jack Lord and William Shatner is that apparently they both were not liked very much off-camera by the cast and crew of the shows due to their egotistical attitudes. Must go with the package when you're this stern, good-looking man playing the lead roll of a hit tv series.
There's a lot of lead rolls I can think of that Jack Lord would have been a fitting actor.
You probably already know (http://mjq.net/fiveo/perspirer.htm) Jack spent his retirement and final years of his life living at the Kahala Beach condominiums here on Oahu. He was often seen walking around the area, but he suffered a bad case of Alzheimers, and was said to be mostly incoherent.
RIP Jack Lord.

Hey, you forgot about Miulang, who would compare the cost estimates of this $80 million runway with similar infrastructure projects at Sea-Tac.
And you, Leo, who would somehow turn an entire paragraph (or two) of your thoughts on the project into just one or two concise sentences. :p
And me, who would probably post a picture of some food I ate at an eatery in the airport area (just to stay on-topic). :oOh, believe me, I had several others that I decided against using, including a much less nice one on myself.
