my friend and i were kicking around ideas for a summer trip and i came across this site http://www.jetstar.com/au/index.html and it has some unbelievable prices for flights from hon to australia; they're so good that i'm suspicious so i wonder if anyone here knows anything about them?
as it turns out, i think we'll be going to japan but if the company is reputable, i'll definitely use them to get to australia in the fall...
thanks :)

Jetstar is Qantas's low cost carrier outfit. They are using A330s for their long hauls until they get some of the new 787s ordered by Qantas.

wow. so they're not some fly-by-night operation. their prices are so incredibly cheap; hon to sydney for something like $350! i was married in darwin and would love to get back there...
thanks for the info!

Well, they are supposed to be cheaper than traditional flights to Australia but you pay for every single item, like meal, entertainment, pillow, blanket. I just arbitrarily tried booking a flight and got $327 each way but after taxes and fees, it came out to $772. Tried the same with HA and got $979. UA gave me some crazy number like $3323. Qantas themselves is $1229. So yep, the cheapest out there. Just set your level of expectation to the correct level and you're all set. When they first started operations, they offered intro fares of $150 each way. :D

Here's a review (http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/95987/?searchid=95987&s=jetstar+hawaii#ID95987) of a Jetstar Melbourne to HNL flight in case you are curious about their service.
