I never watched this show before but, being stuck in a hotel room with limited TV channel choices a few weeks ago, I decided to give it a try.
These kids are fantastic! I think the Japanese kid with the British accent is adorable---love the way he seems to defy gravity. I've set my DVR. :)
Anybody else watching?

I usually have it on in the background -- one eye on the tv, one on the PC while I web browse.
They have some very talented dancers on that show! The man of Japanese background has charisma. I hope he goes far in the competition.

I love this show and have watched for several seasons ~ I’m a dance junkie and will watch any dance ~ but this contest is really good and has some excellent dancers. Mia Michaels (judge) is one of the best chorographers around today incredibly creative, she choreographs for Cirque du Soleils. Mary Murphy, (judge) and her "screams" can be a bit hard to take but the show is good enough to overlook her vocal enthusiasm. Yea the Japanese kid is adorable ~ hope he can do all of the various dance styles required of these kids. I think Lacy is someone to watch her cousin Benji won last season, not my favorite but still a dancer with fantastic altitude, the guy could "fly". :)

I think Lacey is Benji's sister. So far, I think she's a better dancer than he is. I really really dislike Mary's screams.
I was disappointed Ricky got voted off. I'm not trained in any style of dance but I couldn't tell why the judges were saying he just wasn't trying his best ~ he still seemed to be a better dancer than one of the other two guys who were on the line.
I really like that the show shows pieces of the dancers learning the routine before showing the final version. It's amazing to me that the choreographers can envision a dance in their heads, put all the moves together and teach it to other people.

So Lacey is Benji's sister, it would be interesting if she won this season...I was also disappointed when Ricky got voted off, I thought he was good and didn't really get a fair chance to show how good he was. The back stage rehersal footage is really cool and it always looks as if they will never get the routine down. Yes, it is amazing how the choreographers make their magic ~ They do sometimes use a form of "notation" called Labanotation, one can record objectively the changes in the angles of the limbs, the paths in space, and the flow of energy as well as addressing subtle distinction of movement motivation and facial expression. Some use Labanotation and some just have it all in their head through visions of movement. Can't really figure out who the top runners will be this season ~ I thought Lacey was great ~ but one must remember that the choreographers play a big role in how the dancers present their movement to us and Lacey's choreographer was Mia...:D

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! It is my favorite show in the summer & I have watched both of the previous seasons.
I agree - Lacy is one to be reckoned with, which actually surprised me. Watching her in the auditions, I didn't think she had that much going for her and would be annoying, but I actually like her.
Mary's screams are so annoying and are getting louder and more frequent each season.
I also like Hok (the Japanese/English kid) & have watched him trying all three seasons. One of his friends made it one season, but couldn't handle the other dances...I hope he doesn't have this problem, but think he will.
My favorite type of dance is the hip/hop routines, but the show has taught me an appreciation for contemporary/lyrical.

This is by far the best season ~ incredible dancers that can morph into any dance style imaginable. When a lyrical dancer can crump as well as foxtrot that is a huge achievement. They just get better every week!! I love watching these kids even with the "screams". Can't make up my mind as to who is the best couple but the Asian guy and his partner were incredible, a fantastic chorographer helps ~ he has sure done a lot to mainstream hip-hop. I think Ashlee was the name of the girl that was having heart issues, (still going through tests) too bad she was one of my favorites. :(

Love this show! The talent is just incredible! Did you all see Hok and his partner do the butterfly and hummingbird dance last night? It was absolutely stunning! The beauty of their agility, movement and total control actually moved me to tears! :)

It was Jessi that was in the hospital not Ashlee and btw she was voted off last night ~ too bad she was good but she should have never danced for her life doing the routine she did last night mediocor hip-hop at best....:( The guys that danced solo were incredible, I sure wouldn't have wanted to say who should go home, but they did make the right choice.

I'm into the show now that they have the top 20 (now 18!) finalists...and I'm into it for the wrong reason...Keiki o ka aina...MARK KANEMURA (http://www.fox.com/DANCE/top20_mark.htm)! I forget who he's dancing with but even tho' their choreographer didn't hold out much hope for Mark last week, he really pulled it off. Beautiful dance. I voted 10 times! :o

You mean Twitchington!
My roommate was a dancer so she's a devoted watcher, and I'll usually sit down and watch with her if I'm around. I know squat about dancing but it's pretty entertaining and it's fun listening to my roommate give her expert commentary.

About tonight's decision show, in case people recorded it, haven't seen it yet and don't wanna know until they get to watch it. Well Mark Kanemura is doing good! Was the guy who got voted off tonight the one who studied under Debbie Allen?

I hope you guys caught Mark and Chelsie tonight or have it on DVR because if not, you missed out.
None of the other couples were even close! I swear, that kid makes it look so easy.
What a masterpiece.

It's amazing that both Mark and Chelsie look so young and goofy off stage and so very different onstage. They not only look good, but they can generate real passion between them when they dance together and look a lot like rascal siblings otherwise.

OUCH! That performance was so good it was painful! And the choreography was amazing.
As has been mentioned over the course of this season's SYTYCD, Mark was a teacher at Marcelo Pacleb's 24/7 Dance Force in Kaneohe. IIRC, Mark was a student at 24/7 prior to teaching. Anyway, I've had the opportunity to not only audition 24/7 dancers at my studio but to also cast out of Marcelo's studio. Those are the casting sessions I don't want to see end. The kid's are always a thrill to watch, esp. when I bring music they've not heard and ask them to improv.
Ten years ago I asked Marcelo if he'd start a dance troup called 54/7!!! Hmmm...now it would have to be called 64/7...and it would need to be a bit slower! :o
In another thread I mentioned that in my next lifetime I want to come back as a food stylist. Wrong! I want to come back as a dancer! :D

Oh that dress was just AWFUL. Looks like she tucked the entire tablecloth under her chin and walked away from the table.
I love Mark. I was mesmerized by that performance last night. He is quirky, stunning, very charismatic. IMHO the most magical of all the dancers.
I started watching this show last year because I was stuck in a hotel room in Campbell, CA. I was there because my daughter had to have very major surgery. Alone in that hotel room with minimal TV choices. I would never have started watching that show under normal circumstances but last year, as I channel-surfed in that hotel room I settled on that show and promptly got hooked.
I'm glad I did. It's so much damn fun!

There was some darn good dancing tonight regardless of what the judges said. And, the choreography was outstanding. Ditto for last week.
GO MARK...

Yay for live East Coast Bloggers!
Mark and Chelsie are safe this week and will head into the Top 10. Top 10 = compete individually and an automatic in in the SYTYCD tour.
Bottom three tonight:
Kherington and Twitch
Will and Jessica
Comfort and Thayne
I'd love Jessica going home more than anything, but will be happy if Comfort goes. Just send her home already! She's been in the bottom 3 how many weeks in a row!
YES! COMFORT AND THAYNE ARE DONE! Poor Thayne, though. If he had another partner, I'm sure he would have last another week.

Hmmmm, I think Tabitha and Napolean borrowed a move from Travis Wall (when he danced as a female contestant in the try-out phase) for their opening number.

July 10th, 2008, 11:58 PM
I didn't see Travis' audition but I thought the opening number was dynamite! But, the show stoppers were the Alvin Ailey dancers (http://www.alvinailey.org/). They absolutely rock my soul and have for decades. The Best.
OMG...I just saw Will's solo. Awesome. He's Alvin Ailey material.

Travis' surprise audition

Anybody else thought Mark drew the short straw last night?
Mark Kanemura was in the bottom 2 tonight.
Still, he escaped elimination when Gev was sent packing.
For the ladies, Comfort (who came back after Jessica broke 2 ribs) and Kherington were in the bottom 2, and Kherington was eliminated.
VOTE VOTE VOTE everybody! The judges no longer have the power!
Adri
July 17th, 2008, 06:09 PM
I did think Kanemura started to lose a little of his shine when he had to change partner. But the judges were generally complimentary to him last night, at least in comparison to Kherington.

July 17th, 2008, 10:19 PM
Based only on my voting, from a sudsy bathtub, I thought Mark was assured of not being in the bottom 2! Thank God for the redial button! But, yes, his performance was negatively impacted by Kherington. Mark's a much better dancer. She was lucky to have been paired with Twitch to begin with. Katee's amazing. So is Will. The ballet number (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr3VpP7Yzjs) was breathtaking.
I thought once American Idol and Dancing With the Stars were pau, I'd be finished with tv 'til next January. Not true...:o

I did, Adri, I did! During a lengthy, post show, soak in the tub I hit redial for the entire duration. I thought his performances were excellent. Trouble is, everyone else's were better. Whatta night full of incredible dancing. Will and Katee's "door" dance to Duffy's "Mercy", choreographed by Mia Michaels was breathtaking.
I think Mark and Comfort are on shaky ground. :(

Poor Mark. He can't catch a break.
I was really pissed last night to learn that Comfort's had technical training and attended a performing arts school. That obviously did not show in any of her performances.
I'd hate for Mark to be eliminated tonight, but I won't be surprised if he does. I voted for the entire 2 hours last night on both phones...yay for redial. Hopefully Mark's fans did the same to keep him safe from elimination and send Twitch home instead.
I'll be reading the open results thread on the SYTYCD blog!!!

KHON had been airing short PSAs to vote for Mark. Professional photographer, Russell Tanoue, has had an ongoing email campaign since voting started. Still, I've never received a busy signal when calling in to vote...unlike trying to vote for Jasmine Trias on AI.
I wasn't surprised at all to learn that Comfort had training. Her roots are in hip-hop. For her to be thrown into ballroom and do admirably well caused me to believe that she had to have learned dance techniques somewhere other than the street!

Oh man...oh man, oh man, oh man!!! Too many surprises for little tutu's fragile emotions! :D I loved all 4 guys and esp. love Joshua's back story. For him to have come this far is a testimony to his spirit. Twitch rocks my soul. Will was technically the best, I think. Dayam...how couldn't he be after all that training with Debbie Allen?! He shouldn't have been voted off at this point in the competition. Mark got lucky even tho' he's right up there with the best.
I love that the show incorporates ballet and that it's cool. The pas de deux to "The Man I Love" brought me to tears...a song I grew up with that I woulda never thought to pair with ballet. Gorgeous.
The big hit, however, is Mia Michaels. I've never seen choreography that so blatantly, boldly and clearly tells a story...no words or lyrics needed.
Congratulations, Lei. You and I, double handedly, got Mark thru! :D And congratulations to Mark. I so hope he's paired with Katee next week.
I really do hope that Will is hired by the Alvin Ailey Dance Co. Whatta perfect match that'd be.

Who knew that phone voting is so exhausting?
Mark and Courtney were so great tonight. They look absolutely adorable together...too bad she's not his type. ;) I love love love that David Cook song!
I know Katee and Chelsie's been fan favorites since the beginning, but I really really hope Courtney surprises everyone and makes it to the Finale. I'd rather see her in the Finale than Chelsie. Chelsie's a great dancer, but I honestly don't think I can take anymore "Here's my vagina!" moves.
I can watch Mark and Courtney's Viennese Waltz over and over again!

Who knew that phone voting is so exhausting[...]
I tried to hedge the exhaustion by, as mentioned above, calling while soaking in a hot tub! This time I added fresh blueberries. NO, not TO the bathtub! I had a cup of fresh berries resting on the side of the tub and popped one into my mouth each time the phone was connecting to 06! A great crop 'o berries, I might add. Anyway, once the berries were gone I stopped calling. By then I'd turned into a prune! :D

Well, there's nothing online (that I could find) suggesting that Napoleon's either one.

We were at the Palo Alto Obon festival last weekend and saw a lot of people there with "Vote for Katee - So You Think You Can Dance" buttons with her picture on it. Then we saw a couple with her photo on their t-shirts saying something like "we're Katee's parents!" It was kinda like "Vote for Jasmine" but on a much smaller scale - no Coconut Wireless here in the Bay Area ;)
We haven't watched the show but now our interest is kind of piqued.
