Not to sure where to plop this...anyhow....
There's gonna be a live web stream tonight 6:00pm HST from the Pakele lounge of the Ala Moana.
http://www.lava.net/node/109
Aunty Genoa, PALI, Pekelo, and Randy Lorenzo will be playing in the Lounge.
I dunno if Pali (as opposed to the group PALI) will be there though 'cause he went and broke himself.

Unscheduled gig... at Straub ER
Current mood: thankful
Morphine, Motrin and IVs...
Who woulda thought a great gig would be followed up by a week full of pain, morphine and trips to the ER.
Turns out a workout about a month ago led to a sore lower back/leg injury (oddly enough, during the post-weight lifting stretching, not lifting!). Went to the doctor's and got steriods for the pinch nerve diagnosis I was given. Apparently, this turned into 2 unscheduled visits to Straub's Emergency room, one MRI which revealed I had a severly ruptured disc and surgery was the only course of action. So, after 4 hours in the operating room and 2 hours in recovery, 90% of the pain is gone, and i can walk again. Still some light tingling in my left leg, but I'll live. I must say, Straub's ER attendees, nurses, doctors were awesome, and a my sincerest mahalo and aloha to everyone that helped me out while I was there.
In closing, my apologies for missing our KHNL morning show appearance scheduled for Monday Jun. 11, and for missing our Mayor Mufi Hanneman fundraiser gigs.

Aloha all,
Yeah, we have DVs and hard drives full of footage that we've begun to splice up and will be reposting in a few spots:
www.alohavideo.tv
www.mauitoday.tv (they'll be getting some of the slack key footage first.. under the Music section)
www.lava.net (jump point to our Pakele MySpace page that will host vids)
Each week we've been noticing a growing number of online viewers-so we're stoked people are tuning in. If you do live on O`ahu though, come down and check it out live as we've had some great jam sessions after the stream has gone off air. (not to mention the nachos area *really* ono) ;)

We caught our pal John Keawe (with Hope dancing) last week, along with a set from the wonderful Napua Greig (keep watching her, folks - she's definitely going places.) Didn't have any of the technical problems that had plagued some earlier shows; glad to see the improvement.
These are fantastic shows, and we're looking forward to this week's - we spent time with Bryan Tolentino when he came up this way for the Kalama Days festival in August, with Weldon Kekauoha.

Stephen Inglis'Twas a nice surprise, last week, to see Kalae Miles join Stephen onstage. Kalae has performed and taught many times up here in WA State (I've taken a number of classes from him). One of my musical compadres from up this way (himself a former musician in Honolulu) was in the audience that evening, and sent me jealousy-inducing photos from his iPhone.

Aloha all.. Howzit Leo! Yeah, Kalae was awesome and I had no idea he'd be there until the show started....
I hope the boys and I can get out there too as I LOVE Seattle. We're working on a few things for Pakele, and should they go through, we'll be announcing them in a few weeks. The entire rebroadcast got delayed due to having to re-encode all the files, but we're now a few weeks away from getting them online. They'll be on www.mauitoday.tv (http://www.mauitoday.tv) (in the music section) with pointers to pakelelive.com and alohavideo.tv.
The one funny thing is, when we started, it was 1 camera, shooting with junky lighting, then with 2 cameras with no switching equipment, to what we have now. Kinda hard watching the old ones, but we got some great performances on there...

The one funny thing is, when we started, it was 1 camera, shooting with junky lighting, then with 2 cameras with no switching equipment, to what we have now. Kinda hard watching the old ones, but we got some great performances on there...I know the feeling. With my new job, I am creating a digital archive out of old analog tapes of radio broadcasts going back into the mid-1980s. For the past month (and for the next couple), I'm dealing with a national live-performance series I produced from 1984-1995. I'm up to late 1987 at the moment, and it's been fascinating to hear the improvements in quality over the first three seasons; that also makes the necessary post-production easier as I go along.
I've also had a chance to revisit several live concert recordings I engineered twenty-plus years ago --- so far, I've been pleasantly surprised at how well they held up, considering we had some pretty funky equipment at the time.

That's SOOOOO cool! I know what you mean about live stuff.. remember that live concert series from the 70's/80's.. was it called Midnight Express?? A friend of mine had some DVDs of the stuff (guess he knew someone that had masters and they ported it over). I saw Heart's performance and Stevie Nicks and given the period this was captured-the sound was amazing. Also, I have some old Boston stuff I'd collected and the sound then was really good for when it was recorded.

I know Greg, Eddie Palama are in for the Steel showcase, I can't remember the 3rd one (we wanted Alan but he's busy at Marriott that night).
Also, we're getting close... the biggest hurdles are the fact artists keep requesting DVDs of their performances (heh heh), so we try and get this to them so they can use the performances for their own promotion. We'll be doing a press release soon to announce their rebroadcast on http://www.mauitoday.tv's music section (there's a wonderful interview with Aunty Genoa and performance with her, Kamaka Fernandez & Uluwehi Guerrero on there too).
I'll be sure to post back on here when we launch (and thanks for waiting folks!).

How's the person who had the stroke doing?Uncle Dougie is wheelchair bound & not speaking - but able to smile and make chords on his `ukulele (while others do the strumming). He was a big bear-hugging sweetheart of a guy, and those closest to him say you can tell the stroke has diminished him greatly - but not absolutely. He was a marvelous massage therapist, giving special attention to the hands & arms of Hawaiian musicians who would pass through the area (such as Brittni Paiva & Bill Tapia).

Kind of a mix up in scheduling.. due to the fact the Hokus are coming up.. we wanted to have some of the nominees:
Tomorrow's show will be:
* Weldon Kekauoha (hour 1)
* Pilioha (hour 2)
Next week, kinda after the fact, will be Hoku Z 6/19 for both slots. We're trying to finish up booking through August.
Mahalo all!

The listing for Pakele was put up with wrong information according to my sources. Nathan Aweau and Beach 5 are actually playing on July 31th and Holunape is actually scheduled for August 7th. Or so I've heard.
Where's Pali when you need him?

And now that OC16 has revamped their site and got their web stream working, if you miss the live stream you can catch it the next Wednesday and various times through that week.

It works best in Internet Explorer, using Fire Fox is buggy but you can paste:

Into your windows media player's url command = File > OpenURL > paste it in > click ok

Does OC16 have an archives to bring up past shows?

It looks like they do for some shows but not all past shows, so I'm guessing they rotate em out.
