I played sample tracks for my mother and she actually asked me if that was a Martin Denny album. I'm not kidding! You got skills man. Sounds great.

So Jim, when you get your place on the Big Island, are you going to open up a TIKI LOUNGE? ;)

I can just picture it now, with a kitsch 50's era grass shack theme, a stage up front for live local music (including yourself) and killer grilled food on the menu.

The signature menu items could even be named after songs on the album...

Tikiyaki Burger" - Fire grilled Teriyaki burger with Jack Cheese and a slice of pineapple
Koko's Surf 'N Turf - Fire grilled rib eye steak with your choice of fish or jumbo shrimp (Lobster additional cost)
Black Sand, Blue Sea - Fresh Ahi (preferably blue fin tuna), seared (blackened) on the outside, sliced thin sashimi style with wasabi and shoyu sauce.
The Alii Fire Dance - Grilled Moi (fish) with garlic & ginger butter, brought to the table on a flaming cedar plank
Stranded in Paradise - Tropical drink of the day

Name the bar itself "Mai Tais on the Moon".

Have a gift shop up front for Koko's awesome custom-made hand bags 'n stuff.

Hey, we can dream, right? :)

Don't forget the Squid Luau....you and auntie can duke it out on octopuss vs squid :p

You HAVE TO have Pomai's Smoked Pork on the menu.

Damn, that's some creative food thinking.

I have gotta ask, in the song Road to Panalu'u, is that a sample from the opening to Pee Wee's Playhouse? Just reminds me of some of the sounds in a couple of episodes from back in the day.

I LOVE it! All the songs are really great, very well done!

Cover reminds me of this hotel on Molokai just west of town, on the south shore. Forget the name.

Koko Moe's or whatever the Tiki Shack should be called, would be great in Hilo.

Congrats Tiki. Music is a chore, especially at the very end of the creative process. (ie the publishing/recording part)

Congrats! I know the time effort and money involved to get this done. I went to a family reunion last week in S Florida. We stayed at a "fishing camp" that was set up to look like Hawaii (actually the Tiki look). I played your tunes - it was perfect! (ahhhh - my little smilie faces aren't working!) I am going to order a copy NOW!

LOL...Pee Wee's Playhouse.lol! "The Road to Pee Wee's Playhouse".

Actually, the melody on the final track, "Stranded in Paradise" sounds just like the gist of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET theme song.

Here's a YouTube mix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsUoAABcIHQ), where the guy mixed the Nightmare on Elm St. theme song with another horror movie. Listen for the main part in the middle. Sounds just like "Stranded". They play that riff throughout the course of N.O.E.S. movies.

"Stranded with Freddy Kruger".

Yikes I hear that....The whole time I was writing it I was having one of those songwriter moments like "am I SURE this isn't another song".
I was thinking it might be The Enchanted Sea, which is an exotica staple...Marting Denny did it...but, I was never really a "Elm Street" fan....not a big horror movie guy....so I definitely didn't subconsciously or consciously lift it from there, cos I never heard that.

Oh well....EVerything's been done anyway.

Loving the CD. Tikiyaki got them in the mail fast and I had mine in days. He really nailed the "feel" of the old Martin Denny records. The music is just the tonic for me.

But what really needs to be mentioned is the packaging. In a day where people are too used to clicking "download now", we've lost touch with the tactile experience of a finely packaged CD. First, the artwork is top shelf. It's authentic to the mood of the music, and has that 50's/60's retro feel. In a word fun. Then you'll notice the drink umbrella in the jewel case spine. A themed touch in a space that usually goes unused. Then you open the jewel case and you are greeted with the colorful drink coaster inviting you to "Place Mai Tai Here". The disc is screened with a variation of the album art, not just a title and the other legal stuff. The liner notes are brief but give the credits due, the special Mahalos, and even a shout out to HT too.

First Class all the way! Congrats Tiki, may you sellout all you can print!

Now...how about a nice suitable for framing print of that album art?

Mahalo FatJeff...that's a ringing endorsement, if ever I read one. :D

I'm glad all the details didn't go unnoticed....Album art and packaging is a lost art, and why buy a CD when you can download, right ? This was my dilemma about even pressing a CD, until I posed the question on a forum called Tiki Central, and someone basically said, "If you're gonna make a CD with a single page insert and nothing else, don't bother, just make it downloads only."

So, I figured I'd better make it a little special.

Blue...Yes, Paypal is such a wonderful convenience...it amazes me when people don't have it.....But then again, think of all the money I might have saved if I DIDN'T have Paypal

Christa ... SHAG-escent...yes....every Tikiphile loves SHAG. This art, however is done by a guy named Brad Parker. He has a company called Tiki Shark (www.tikishark.com) and they make beach towels...They currently have a great design for Body Glove that's a towel with a big tiki design on it.
He recently moved to the Big Island from Toluca Lake (where I live, ironically) and we did all the artwork via emails.

He does some really nice oil on canvas paintings too.

Anyway, thanx folks, the kind words are always encouraging...:D

The last time I was in the Burbank/Toluca Lake area was waaaay before the concept of Starbuck's was even a glimmer in anyone's brain! Is the hot dog stand still somewhat close to BBB? Speaking of Bob H...his home was the place to go for great Halloween treats! They were so generous and handed out the treats personally!

Papoo's ? YES, still there. The great thing about Burbank is alot of it's Mid Century Charm is still intact. BBB, looks exactly the same as it did when you lived there. All the Disney and Warner Bros types love thet history and so the neighborhood preserves aot of it.They even have Hot Rod night, and drive in/car service on Sunday Nights.

My music placement guy talked to Starbucks music dept once, but not about the T.O. CD. I have considered pursuing them, as I think it would be a good Starbucks instore CD, but they're so big, I don't think I'd get very far....I mean, they dal with Paul McCartney ! I might still try tho'....that'd be a trip seeing my CD in there tho'.

Your little Grass Shack will be the perfect home for the CD...The Makaha Oceanfrontage is what this music is designed for.

And I hope you and TutuSue both know that there's a Bob's Big Boy right here in Honolulu! Mmmmm... a Big Boy combo, add avocado, with a side of bleu cheese for the french fries and a big slice of their strawberry pie... Lord have mercy, I'm drooling on my keyboard.

Smokehouse, yes....I still haven't been, but I passed it the other day and thought "I really need to check that place out" Oh yeah. Kinda dark inside, old-style leather banquettes, though of course that may have all changed since I was last there many decades ago. The thing I recall the most was their world-class garlic bread. Get a basket or two, if they still have!

Big Boy in Honolulu ? Damn.... Yeah, right off the 78, near Tripler Hospital. PM me if you want me to send you a Big Boy Honolulu t-shirt or something!

Same building design as all the Big Boy's, same interior, same food (plus local items, of course)... the only thing missing is the old Big Boy comic books. Oh, I bet Tiki will try to hit Oahu before next June...or is it May?!!! Maybe BBB is a good place for an HT gathering...someone brings an iPod with Tiki's CD on it...and small, portable speakers. We'll pretend it's an old diner jukebox and let everyone else around us hear (back to the topic now...) his music...'til we get kicked out! Maybe we should have a few extra copies with us in case other customers would like to buy one! <g>

Seriously, La Mariana should play his CD as background music when live music isn't happening. I'd love to be dining at LM and hear that genre of music...a perfect combination!

I purposely gave myself a little Waikiki RnR time at the end of my trip. I'll let you guys know if I'm up for it.Funny, but I was kinda anti-Waikiki until my last trip, where I fell in love with the place. Hey, It's reminds me of LA, only with a REALLY AMAZING beach at the end of the street. :D
Bob's Big Boy in Honolulu sounds kinda fun for sure tho, that is if I'm not alseep on the beach.

Chili Spaghetti....YUMMM!!!
