What would you write a book about, if given the chance? Are you an expert in something? Do you have specialized knowlege in some area?
I'd prolly write a book of fiction...a novel....and include things I've seen and done...'cause a lot of it is unbelievable, anyway! :eek:

You should check out this thread (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=6479). It talks about the National Novel Writing Month which takes place every November. You got to write 50,000 words in one month's time!

The period known as the "renaissance" of Hawaiian music (specifically, the late 1960s through the 1970s.)

what a fascinating thread topic!
I interpret it to mean, "what would so interest me that I would research thoroughly enough to write a book about it with confidence and passion?" These come to mind:
-island economies in the post y2k era (several books in this series)
-Hawaiian language renaissance communities (several books in this series)
-the history of where I live and notorious families of the area
-an apologia for starting one's family young in this day and age
-collaborate on some works for fitness for the 35+ woman, with an emphasis on weight-training and circuit-training (variety of media)
-an overview of how to care for the native forest
-how to draft your own sewing patterns and understanding fabrics
-a riff of the "the Millionaire Next Door" based on those who live on islands
I don't have the imagination to write fiction.

I've always wanted to write a book with the title: You Know You're Going to Hell When...
And I'd list a bunch of reasons why such as...When you crowd out a merging car when they had their turn indicator on and there was clearly enough room for them to enter...but you speed up and close the gap. Yup that's when you've bought that ticket to Hell:D

I'm with Mike Lowery on this one. The question is a bit like those "what kind of business would you start if you could start one?" questions. I've got several novels in various stages of completion, and I'm not eager to tell the world about them, lest I ruin my own chance at having my good ideas published!

1) history on UH athletics from 1968 onward;
2) financial scams in Hawaii (e.g Ron Rewald; Peter Wong - group medical insurance fraud; Barry Belafontaine - coins, precious metals, etc.);
3) "oldies" music.

1) My Poetry. And it may happen some day.
2) A fictional novel loosely based on my experiences and travels.
I really wouldn't have to make too much stuff up for it to be exciting!
HaHa! ;)

I used to work with Joe Rose and man could that guy talk. He used to talk about radio back before Aku, the first professional baseball team in Hawaii (and it wasn't the Islanders), his days at the Termite Palace and a crap load of other local island events surround the broadcast media.
Right now I think the only person still alive that can talk about those days is the General himself Les Keiter. I wish he would start publishing his thoughts before he loses them.
I bought that DVD, "Honolulu: The 1st Hundred years" and was so disappointed because as a documentary it didn't flow very well. I'm sure a lot of good material ended up on the cutting room floor but this one DVD did an injustice to a century of wonder in Honolulu.

Atomville - sort of a cross between renfest characters I've known over the years and spongebob squarepants. Everything within the story is true to the science. All the characters are different atoms - Hydros are children, who in order to grow up must fuse with each other to become bigger and stronger atoms (Heliums are teens). The town is ruled by the King Car and Queen Bon from the family of Carbonia. Lord Neon (usually inert in his ways) can become quite excited when the king and queen try to get the good citizens of Atomville to bond together and become organic. As any good Neon knows, bonding leads to a loss of identity. Of couse, after all that excitment builds up in Lord Neon, he must release that energy and blow a photon. Then we have Niles the nitrogen - a rather rougish sort who can be rather volitile in nature......... Lady Oxygen is always the level headed one..... and so on.
I'm not too worried about anyone taking my ideas cause 1) it's already under copywrite protection and 2) who'd want to.....
This actually was written as a short play for kids in conjunction with a museum exhibit on organic molecules but in my mind it will eventually be a full length book or TV series. Of course, selling it as such is another story.
Another book I've always wanted to write is "Women I Have Known" telling the stories of various women I've known and admired.

Thanks. I wondered how many would get the reference. The only reason I thought of it is we were discussing the movie at work recently.

'Things I've Seen While Hiking (Tresspassing) O'ahu Mountain Watershed Land'
I don't know if any of you know this, but there is a relatively large house-less population living aina-style in the forests of the Ko'olau mtn range. The camps are small, scattered, and well hidden, and are supplied by catchment, fruit and vegetable patches, infrequent trips to stores, and beleive it or not, they actually have limited livestock.
I'd never detail this in a book as I wouldn't want these people 'found'.
OR
Maybe a book about the history of cannabis in the U.S. I know there are already a few...but the more, the merrier.

What would you write a book about, if given the chance?
The natural and unnatural transformation of habitats, from some time before the human plague began through the present. Everywhere I go I wonder "what was this place like before people wrecked it?"
