View Full Version : How to get mango stains off white truck?

Aloha from Kaua'i!

Yes, unfortunately our white Toyota has been parked underneath a large mango tree -- you know what that means! Orange mango stains on the white paint!

Any suggestions for how to get this off? It seems impossible!

Mahalo for any and all suggestions!

Try using a little acetone on a rag... rub hard... and hose it off immediately. Try it on a small area first to see if it works. If it does, be sure to wax the truck after you're all done.
I've used acetone tons of times to remove scuff marks but I dunno if it'll do mango stains.

I would suggest buying a clay bar like Mother's. It basically is micro abrasion on the paint job. After that, be sure to give it a good coat of wax to restore the layer of paint you stripped. But this should do the trick. The clay bar/wax deal is what is usually done when you pay for a professional detail, it just involves a lot of manual labor. ;)

Might one of those Magic Eraser pads work? I haven't tried one on car paint but it worked on various stains on a white laminate countertop and various marks on walls.

I wish I could be so lucky as to have mango stains.

Aloha kakahiaka!

Mahalo for the suggestions -- we are going to try the clay bar, which we bought at KMart yesterday -- wish us luck! Thanks again!

By the way, anyone want some mangos? :)

Good luck on that and let us know how it turns out. I'll pass on the mango offer, it's actually something I don't like eating, yeah yeah, personal quirk. :D

Aloha again!

Tried the clay bar yesterday- - hubby used it and I'm afraid it didn't work -- he said he actually started seeing primer come through!

Such a bummer -- new white truck -- new orange stains all over it! Should've remembered that the last white vehicle we had -- same problem -- same parking area!

Thanks for the suggestions however!

Hmmm I wasn't sure if the clay bar would do the trick but I sure didn't think it would take the paint off down to the primer.

How old is the truck? Toyota usually has some kinda warranty against fading... less the paint coming off.

I have a great detail guy in Kakaako who seems to work miracles. That doesn't help you, tho', but maybe there's a detail person on Kauai who can help you.

any bar or compound has micro-abrasives. Safest non-chemical way is to use a pressure washer. But if it got stained just by mangoes, I'd think that your warranty should cover some kind of buffing.

Sounds like a paint job to me. If anyone's interested in a company that will color match your automobile's factory paint and put it in an aerosol it's this company (http://paintscratch.com/) They also have paint pens for minor touch ups.

At this point I'd be concerned the acid in the mango maybe doing worse then just a surface stain. Is this the fruit or the sap?

If you're getting down to primer with clay bar, I hope you've stopped. However, I am a little confused. If you've gotten that far down, you still see the mango stain? Craig's suggestion of getting touchup paint would help though I am not sure what Toyota's warranty is. Sorry to hear of the difficulty on this one.

Have you tried a little straight bleach?

Blotting with hydrogen peroxide works for fruit stains on interior house paint. Might be worth a try.
