If any of you have purchased the one of the HD video formats, I just wanted to know which one so that I can guage where Hawaii consumers are heading towards. (Remember how more people in Hawaii were purchasing Beta in the early 1980s, while the Mainland markets were dominated by VHS?) I'm not just talking about standalone players, either. If you have a PS3, definitely count that as a Blu-Ray player. If you have an X-Box 360 equipped with an HD-DVD unit, count that as a HD-DVD player. If you have any HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drive in your PC, count that. Thanks for your participation.

You forgot "I have neither" (waiting for one DVD format to kill off the other) ;)

Would Hawaii's trend really matter if it contradicted the mainland's trend? One would figure given the population size of mainland vs Hawaii, companies would make their decisions, which format wins, based on the trend on the mainland.

I didn't say that Hawaii's market would dictate who wins the format war. I just wanted to know where the majority of Hawaii consumers stood at this point in time. Period. Nothing more.

If I wanted to know where the trend is headed on the mainland and in the various countries, there are other places on the net where one can look up that information. I just wanted to get an idea about Hawaii. Capisce?

HD-D2 owner and loving it.
I have been monitoring the Costco in town and they are on their second pallete of HD-D2's (comes with HDMI cable). With the low price how can you go wrong.
BestBuy across the street finally have a decent HD DVD display, featuring the HD-A20 on that Toshiba Regza. Although they have to calibrate the TV and set the HD-A20 to actual spit out 1080p, its all good.
I want to be format neutral but waiting till Blu gets their act together, should be like Oct 31 when they going to finalize the specs like HD DVD is. I could do the PS3 but my wallet stay broke.

Capisce?

No need to get your feathers ruffled, it was just a question.

Ditto!

I think I've said it before, Sony has a good track record for innovation, but a poor one for setting standards. We'll have to see if this one breaks their streak.

I would also like to be format neutral but Bluray players are to expensive for my blood. When they drop under $300 I will pick one up.

Had my HD-A2 since they first appeared at BB in Nov 06. I have about 50 titles now. Over half of these were purchased used at some great prices.
