View Full Version : bad day, bad day...

I think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.
At work, it seemed like no one did anything yesterday, so I call the customers to say that one of their laptops will be late in repairs, while I scramble to fix another person's laptop. A few hours later, the bench computer we're using to do the repairs on had a BSOD, and after constant restarts, it went through, but it then had its HAL.dll missing, which mysteriously disappeared after another restart. Now I have to restart the hard drive extraction all over again, forcing me to stay late after work.
Heck, the only good thing that happened to me today, was that bill collectors called, and I told them my story. They sympathized with me, and gave me an extention to pay for my bills when I land another job.
Sorry, I just had to let it out.

Dropping drivers and run files not a good thing for the bench computer. I'd consider replacing the hard drive soon.

we already did that.
I built it myself, and its doing this to me? Maybe I should replace it with another SFF computer (I'd love to build another computer to help get rid of this stored up energy)

Lucky you didn't get called by this guy (http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070701/NEWS10/707010337/1001/NEWS)!

If I had that guy, then I'd pull a Byron Uesugi.
And just a few moments ago, I didn't fix a computer at a client's house beacuse he's taking his computer in for warranty work at compUSSR.

When the boys (Or me in fact!) are having a bad day I grab this book and giggle.
Yes, silly but I feel downright goofy today!:D

I dunno, Adrian. I worked 13 straight hours yesterday, got only 5 hours of sleep, and worked 13 straight hours again today. Working full tilt boogie, not a minute of down time. Lots of high pressure problems to solve, with a lot of money at stake, and a helluva lot of people all wanting my attention at once and demanding that their problems be handled before anyone else's.
And I feel GREAT and I had a good day, good day.
Don't let the small sh*t bother you, Adrian. Life is too short. Get rid of the negativity that seems to chase you. Next time you feel abused, look at photos of the starving children in Africa, or go visit kids in the burn ward at Queen's or help Aunty Lynn feed the homeless.
You have a good life compared to a majority of people, Adrian.
And here's one last little word of advice:
Nobody likes a whiner.
Just my two cents worth.

Oooooh dear. You quit your job while having outstanding debt, Adrian? Is you debt past due to the point it's been turned over to a bill collector? Or did you receive a call from the company that carries your debt (the debtor...such as a credit card company)? Just remember that interest (and possibly penalties) will continue to accrue so you'll end up owing more and more money. In reality, receiving an extension really isn't such good news.
If I had that guy, then I'd pull a Byron Uesugi.

I don't think I'd put that in writing on the internet even if just in jest.

Hope it didn't catch a virus. Back when I was doing that kind of work, we had a company policy to do a full scan. If there was a virus, we wanted to be the ones to find it, even if it wasn't the problem. Because if the customer found it later, we'd end up getting blamed.

You know one thing you may want to try is to unplug the IDE cables on both the optical drives and the hard drive. If it successfully loads to the POST and ends there, plug in the hard drive IDE cable and try again.
I've had a couple of computers that acted up with the BSOD and it turned out to be a defective CD-ROM drive. On boot up when the BIOS is detecting the optical drives, if the drive isn't working properly it can confuse the BIOS.

I've seen hard drives hold a mother board in reset, so I can see some kind of glitch being caused by a drive.

I've seen that too but in Adrian's case he already changed the hard drive...although it could be a defective IDE cable to the hard drive. I've seen cables go bad and give problems like Adrian's.
Geeks.com sells a packet containing two IDE cables (http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=MBBPLUS&cat=CBL)one for a floppy and the other for a hard drive/optical drive plus screws, standoffs and insulators for $1.99. Whenever I order stuff from them I add a few of these in the order cuz for every repair I do I replace all the IDE cables on computers over a year old.
