As I was eating my dinner tonight which consisted some servings of kim chee it dawned on that the phrase "you are in deep kim chee" kind of means you are in big trouble or at least that is in the context I have heard it being used.
That being the case if someone says "you are in shallow kim chee" does that mean the trouble you are in is not that bad?

HANAKOKOLELE! Is that the correct spelling? And, I think that's just minor trouble if you say, "HANAKOKOLELE, BROKE YO UKULELE" that would be a synonym for "Deep Kim Chee"?

"Deep kim chee," if I'm not mistaken, is actually a euphemism for "deep s**t." Someone substituted "kim chee" for the other phrase, and that somehow took off in popularity. I know this doesn't answer your question, but...

Didn't Larry Price coin that term? Deep Kim Chee?
Back in the 70's there was this Korean political dissident that was being held prisoner someplace in North Korea (I suspect) and his name was Kim Chee. In front of the Korean counsulate's office on the Pali Highway protesters held signs saying: Free Kim Chee.
I was an ignorant teenager at the time and when we passed by I told my mom to stop cuz these people were giving away Kim Chee for free!
My mom had to explain that one to me:D
