 I am new to all of this! I am hoping to move to Oahu from Vancouver BC, Canada. Why Oahu?? Well, I have visited 2x both times I have never felt healthier in my life!! Not only that as soon as I took my first walk out of the condo I felt @ homethough I had never been there. I had lived in Madison Wisc, Chicago, Auburn Wash in addition to Vancouver BC (where I grew up) & other than Vancouver I have never felt that before. I am currently on disability & suffer from chronic migraine, which 2 note I hardly had any whilst there. My parents & Auntie spend 1-2 months in Oahu @ year they don't have the luxury I do of being a dual citizen who also has part of my pensions from the US!;) Lucky me I am a proud dual citizen loving & proud of both my countries!! I know that family would be a fairly reasonable airfare & approx. 5hrs. away. I have been looking & it seems Oahu real estate is priced close to that of Vancouver! My tentative plan is to rent for 6 mos. or so & to try to find the ideal area for permenant purchase, then sell my home in Vancouver. My daughter (19) would also like to attend U of H. Any tips, advice etc. would be immensly appreciated!! Aloha & Mahalo 2 all!

Hey. Who the hell are you? I am the Vancouver to O'ahu dude. Don't take that away from me. That's all I got.

Okay, kidding. But I am the Vancouver to O'ahu dude. Much like you, I visited O'ahu a couple of times, once on honeymoon, and once with my 2 year old son. Both times it felt like home. Really hard to explain the feeling, it just felt like we should be living there. The fact that our son loved Hawai'i pretty much clinched it for us. Somehow I fell into a job offer in my desired field of work, and yada yada yada, we're moving this fall. I'm not a dual, however, so I have to do the monkey dance in order for my stay to be permanent.

I'll pass on anything that I experience. I started a thread a little while back (I'll link it after I finish this post). So far the HT people have been great at providing advice, suggestions, etc ... Good luck. PM me if you like.
