So, did all you parents of "tweens" have to endure the premiere and endless rebroadcasts of High School Musical 2 this weekend on Disney Channel?
I only just relented and watched the first one recently. I get the hype.
I was a bit disappointed with the message in this one (and I do admit I didn't really watch it but kind of glanced at it while I was preparing dinner and heard some of the songs over the sound of my exhaust fan & dishwasher) but it seemed to me that the lead character had a shot to go to college and he gave it up to stay with his friends.
My better half (who saw more of the movie than I did) told our boys (8 and 10 years old) that if they ever get offered a scholarship or a chance to go to college, they are grabbing it with both hands and not letting go! They can always get new friends - IN COLLEGE!!
Now, I'm sure that squeaky clean Disney is trying to give kids some kind of "be a good friend/team player" message but sorry, not at the expense of higher education.
My 10 year old gave me the quote of the week when he told me that, "High School Musical is my generation's GREASE... except that Grease was NASTY!" Touche...

The 6 yo daughter unit was glued to it for a while. But I had fun watching her dance around like them. Even showed her a few of my moves.:o

DVR'd it so it was on more often than the replays in our house. Since I was only listening to it like background music, the plot had something to do with...a conflict amongst friends? As much as I didn't watch it, caught myself humming a few bars of the songs this morning in the shower.

I'm an HSM fan and I have two girls, 6 and 8. I loved it. We all cried when Gabrielle broke up with Troy. We think Sharpay was painfully tooooo Paris Hilton. And I'm not happy that my girls think her song "Fabulous" is GREAT! Have to reprogram the mini units about VALUES!
I'm not a Disney fan. I'm allergic to all things mouskateer and I loathe the marketing machine it is. But this franchise redeems Disney in my eyes. Bring on HSM3...theatres in 2008.

I made the mistake of going over to my brother's house the first night it came on. Niece had all her stupid bratty friends over for a slumber party.
I didn't watch the first one because, while I admit to liking Disney Channel movies (The Color of Friendship, Tiger Cruise, hell...even Johnny Tsunami), HSM was just too cheesy for me. Still, even though I want to bang my head against the wall everytime anyone makes mention of HSM, I ended up watching it a few nights later during the sing-a-long.
To this day I still have "the Music in Me" stuck in my head.
Sister in law and I both predicted that Zac Efron will come out of the closet in a few years and pull a Lance Bass.
On a related note...
There is a Hawaii connection to HSM -- Jared Murillo (http://www.jaredmurillo.com/Biography.html) , background dancer and Ashley Tisdale's real-life BF, was born in Hawaii. TMZ.com had photos of the couple vacationing here a few weeks ago for her birthday. Murillo and his parents (who run an award winning dance studio) currently live in Utah, where much of HSM2 was filmed.

Add Vanessa Hudgens (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20055380,00.html) (Gabriella) to the list of stupid celebrities with naked photos leaked onto the internet.
What's really creepy is that Vanessa's only 18. The thought of millions of people looking at a photo that might have been taken while she was still a minor is
Wonder what this means for her and Disney? HSM3? So much for squeaky clean!

PERV! ;)
Apparently there were other pics that were taken prior to that where she was fully clothed. She does not look like how she looks now. She definitely looks younger.

Was I the only one who caught this? Don't remember what scene, but there was a line taken straight from the Dan Akroyd/Eddie Murphy comedy "Trading Places." --- "And she stepped on the ball".
My kids were wondering what I was laughing about. Talk about useless information, I can recite that movie line-for-line, and I know the writer/producers of HSM were paying homage to that movie. . . "YEAH"
