My usual response: "There are plenty of loud, obnoxious people in the world, and I offer a pleasant alternative."

I'd respond, "why are you so loud?":D
Or grab an air horn and blast it in their face and tell them, "There is that better?"

:D that's more tactful than saying, "chill, you're not that interesting."

I'm...

Yes, quite. I've got a well earned reputation for cracking wise, spouting useless trivia at home and when I'm out, and acting like a lunatic when I'm on stage, so when I'm quiet and my family and friends assume something is wrong they're usually right. Not that asking me will get me to talk about it. The whole point of being quiet is that I don't want to talk about it.

Ditto for me. Those who met me at the HT Christmas Party last year know why.
If I am quiet, people already know better not to approach me.

Same here. It's not that I'm that loud, but given the choice, I think most prefer quiet. :D

I get this every once in a while, and it usually surprises me, because I don't really consider myself very social or talkative unless in my group of friends. I usually mumble something to the effect of being tired.

When my wife gets quiet...oh man I musta put my foot in my big old mouth. The quiet can be so deafening.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and REMOVE ALL DOUBT!
