<sigh> I only recognize the first 6 names. Now that I'm a year older, can I blame it on age that I don't recognize the other 6? :o
Upon perusing the link I'm really excited that Julianne Hough is returning and even more excited that her oh-so-cute brother, Derek, who Julianne was seen dancing with at one point last season, will be one of the pro dancers. I wish Derek could've been paired with a young starlet...oh, maybe, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole or Paris! j/k j/k j/k !!! Seriously, for me part of the allure of Julianne and Apolo was their youth. Ballroom dancing tends not to have the cool factor for the younger generation so to see those 2 youngsters not only make it cool but win was dynamite! I'd like to see Derek paired with Scarlet Johansson?!
iCal has been programmed! :D

I saw the cast when it was leaked on TMZ.com the other day and it's a pretty *YAWN* cast, if you ask me. :(
Still, I'll watch it...just for Maksim and Tony. Oh, and the A&F model. RAWR.
Sabrina's an early favorite for me. She's a Cheetah Girl and she'll get the teenybopper vote. I already see her getting far into the competition.

I'm still wondering why Fergie (the former Duchess of York) is not selected?
I'll probably root for Marie Osmond. I had a pre-teen crush on her.
I have no clue about the Cheetah Girls, except maybe Raven Symone, but then I already knew her before she's a Disney player.
Oh, and I know one person in America that won't be voting for Melanie Brown. ;)
As for the guys, they don't have the appeal to draw young crowd to the show than previous seasons (who had Mario Lopez, Drew Lachey, Joey Fatone, etc.). Wayne Newton will draw in the old crowd as well as his fanbase in Vegas. Don't know much about Helio, whereas Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr are more familiar household names when it comes to the faces of NASCAR and Indy racing. Who would care for the rich guy Cuban?
Other than Wayne, the Floyd Mayweather is familiar to me.

I'd like to see Derek paired with Scarlet Johansson?!Me, too. Unfortunately, she's an A-list actress and is very busy.
I wouldn't mind seeing the hot latina from Grey's Anatomy compete. Or one of the Facts of Life girls (including the elusive Molly Ringwald).

If you're not a sports fan, you don't know what it is about Mark Cuban that would make him a great contestant on this show, but the show's producers know. He will win a LOT of people over. He's a very young-looking 49 years old, a self-made billionaire since his early thirties who took the most pathetic franchise in sports and turned it into the team everyone wants to play for. He is a loose cannon, likely to say at any moment the kind of thing that has resulted in millions of dollars in fines from the commissioner of the NBA.
Normally uncontrite about the words that come out of his mouth (he's always a good interview!), he once apologized for a thoughtless remark that offended some Dairy Queen workers by working all day at a DQ. It was one of those normal-guy things that people love about him. The public impression is that he's just a regular guy, but with a billion dollars. Count on him to impress a lot of people.

Of interest to me is the fact that Cuban had hip replacement surgery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Cuban) on 6/29/07. I don't know how far in advance dance rehearsals begin but, dang, even if rehearsals started with the cast announcement yesterday, that's not much recuperation time. Age 49 for a hip replacement is young.

*Yawns*
He's nowhere as appealing as Wayne Newton, nor attractive as Jennie Garth or Jane Seymour for that matter.
And the only rich guy I idolize is Donald Trump (although I prefer daughter Ivanka Trump to try out for the show).

you got 6 votes tonite - but only til 1/2 hr after the show ended. I'm guessing we get 6 more votes tomorrow for the men. I agree that Cheetah Girl was very cute & full of energy - but, this is supposed to be ballroom dancing. A lot of my votes depend on what the judges say - not just because I happen to like a particular person or think they're cute. well, I also can't discount Maks & Tony's tight pants :D

I understand that ballroom dancing on this show is supposed to be 'by the book'. That bores me! That's why I loved Sabrina. She gave a creative edge to the cha cha. Loved it. And like Random mentioned, so did the judges. I thought Mel did a really good job, too.
It appears super models don't make good dancers. Must be those long legs!

But the judges also scolded them for doing the hip hop moves and "suggested" they not do them again. Yes, the stars are all very competitive and will push the envelope. The whole point of the show is to show that they (anyone) can learn ballroom dancing, with all it's rules. Otherwise, what reason do we have for watching THIS particular show? If we just want to see dancing, we can watch the one on MTV.
Hey, I'm not criticizing anyones opinions or who they like on the show. I'm just giving my own opinion. and now, just like last year - I'll bow out of this discussion because I don't want to argue with any of you or offend anyone.

You know, "Dancing With the Stars" was always on when it was on in our house in seasons past. Our kids loved it as much as we did (or, at least, my wife did). But for whatever reason, it's completely off our radar this year. Is it the slate of dancers? Is it the basic premise that's lost our interest? I'm not sure.
A local guy blogs about "Dancing With the Stars" at Pulpconnection (http://www.pulpconnection.net/), and I keep up with what's going on peripherally through him.

For me, this season's list of celeb participants didn't wow me like before. I thought they're going to get Duchess Fergie. But as the show goes on, it is getting better. Season 5 has come to a closed, and the winner and recipient of the ugly mirrorball trophy is ... Helio Castroneves!
The win also gives Julianne Hough bragging right for a back-to-back championship, tying Cheryl Burke.
There has been many surprises and shockers throughout the season and the finale episode did not go quietly ... well, at least not the on the air. Mark Ballas, who partnered up with Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan this season, suffered a shoulder injury that required immediate medical treatment and had to be taken by an ambulance. It seems a lot of the professional dancers are getting hurt this season. Even the winner Julianne Hough was nursing a back injury she aggravated on Monday night. Also on that same night, Maksim was slow in getting up off the dance floor with no help from his partner, Mel "Scary Spice" B.

Sounds like good news for tutusue. :p[...]
Naht! Helio's cute but he doesn't really float this ol' tutu's boat. Now, get Denzel Washington on the show and I'll have to bump up my 40" TV to 60"!
I'd really love to see the producers snag Robin Williams!!! I doubt, tho', that he could get thru one dance in serious mode! Would be fun to see him try! It makes me laugh just thinking about it! :D
Seriously, I'd also love to see John Travolta on the show. Patrick Swayze, too. Those 2 are great dancers which is probably why they wouldn't be asked.
