20 million hits flooded and crashed a ticket lottery site for a Led Zeppelin reunion concert in England today. The concert will feature Jason Bonham in his father's place. Zep drummer John Bonham was killed in a crash in 1980.

The three remaining members last played together in 1988.

They will be joined for the reunion gig by Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini.

...Zep drummer John Bonham was killed in a crash in 1980.Not quite:

"On September 24, 1980, John Bonham was picked up by Led Zeppelin assistant Rex King to attend rehearsals at Bray Studios for the upcoming tour of the United States, the band's first since 1977. During the journey Bonham had asked to stop for breakfast, where he downed four quadruple vodkas (roughly sixteen shots (~2/3 imperial quart, or ~8dl) of vodka), with a ham roll. After taking a bite of the ham roll he said to his assistant, 'Breakfast'. He then continued to drink heavily when he arrived at the studio. A halt was called to the rehearsals late in the evening and the band retired to Page's house — The Old Mill House in Clewer, Windsor. After midnight, Bonham had fallen asleep and was taken to bed and placed on his side. Benji LeFevre (who had replaced Richard Cole as Led Zeppelin's tour manager) and John Paul Jones found him dead the next morning. Bonham was 32 years old.

The cause of death was asphyxiation from vomit. A subsequent autopsy found no other drugs in Bonham's body. The alcoholism that had plagued the drummer since his earliest days with the band ultimately led to his death."

I often wonder about these "reunion" concerts, especially for big name bands where one or more of their key members have died. I would consider this more of a "reconstructed" version of Led Zeppelin, not the original band in the true sense.

Would a Beatles reunion be considered a reunion with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Dani Harrison and Julian Lennon? I don't think they would get away being called The Beatles.

When "The Who" came to Hawaii in concert, I could not justify spending money to see that since only 2 members of the most familiar, original line-up of the band showed up (the rest being dead already).

Sorry, my bad. I was talking out of my arse.

I guess I was thinking about the motorcycle crash where (I think) Bonham broke his leg or got busted up. They had to cancel a (1975?) concert tour that included the L.A. Coliseum, a show to which I held tickets. :(

Ah well. Ē kala mai for the misinformation.

When they did the last get together, it was garbage, imo. They seemed to trashed to perform.

I wish Pink Floyd would tour 1 more time.

I remember it like it was yesterday. The first album I ever owned was "Houses of the Holy", given to me on my 13th B-day.

I would absolutely go to a reunion concert as I was too young to see them live when they were together.

Wow, they said, without Bonzo it wasn't Zep, and they would never perfrom again.

Never say never I guess.

After seeing them about 2 dozen times, and having most of those shows be typically sub-par, I still have faith in them, 'cause when they pull off the magic that made them famous, you'll never forget it.

I'm hoping for a full blown tour, to give a good chance of at least a few good shows.

ZZ, I believe you mean at the Forum, as I too had tickets, and never heard of a show schedualed for the LA Coliseum. They were also famous for cancelling/reschedualing gigs in So. Cal.

Ah, yeah. I suppose you're right. It was a long time ago and L.A. was a foreign country to me, even as long as I lived in SoCal. But I do know that the whole tour was canceled because (I think) Bonham crashed his bike and was injured.

A part of me wanted to keep those tickets, but I couldn't afford it.

I never got to see them. I've seen most everybody else from that era, but missed seeing Zep and missed seeing Hendrix. :(

I seem to recall their last performance was at the Atlantic Records anniversary special that aired on tv in 1988....

I saw Robert in concert a couple years ago, I was sooo dissappointed that he did none of his solo songs which I've liked over the years, he did mostly stuff from his current album and then he did 2 Zep tunes....

Looked like a good gig, until you got to Foreigner...
That's what I would have thought, too, but have you heard their recent stuff? Foreigner played here earlier this year and I stayed away in droves, but then I heard some recordings of the show, and all I could think was how STUPID I was for not going! The band sounds KILLER, even without Lou Gramm.

As for whether or not this will be a decent show, I do remember Zep's performance at Live Aid, with Phil Collins on drums, and I thought they were great.

My first album was Zep II. I've been a Zep freak ever since. I'd go to the gig just to see how much more sloppy Pagey's live playing has gotten over the years.

The first Zep album I bought was In Through the Out Door in '79. My friend already had the others but they were all at my house because he had a crappy stereo.

Wow, just thinking, Bonham died 27 years ago... I'm old.
