CQ Press released it's 14th annual rankings, and Honolulu earned top honors. I received a link from a friend, but didn't notice anything in the local papers. Here's something from Truemors.com (http://truemors.com/?p=17823) to give us some much deserved attention. It's a great honor!

Why won't they disclose their methods in determining this? If it's not open to criticism, it's useless, IMO.

Yeah, safest by what standards?

Safest city to carry around wads of money? Safest city to dart out in traffic? Safest city to leave your car unlocked? Safest city to leave your giant spools of copper wire unattended?

Well, not by idiot standards. :D

If it's not safe for idiots, is it really that safe. I mean seriously, aren't they most often the victims?

Even when you're the victim, isn't there usually an obvious way (that you don't want to admit to yourself) that you could have prevented it? :)

Nerf the city, make them safe for children!

Being that the statistics used is crime related and having been the victim of a criminal act, the answer is no there's nothing I could have done to prevent it. And, I'm sure I'm not alone. Whether you care to believe I want to admit it or not, it's the truth.

I've had my car broken into (not here but the story is relevant) and a number of items inside of it were taken. I know that had I parked my car elsewhere, perhaps locked the door, perhaps not left a pile of CD's in the front seat, my car would more than likley have not been targetted. It was a dumbass moment for me and I'll not deny it.

Most crimes are crimes of opportunity; it's much easier to steal something that's just laying there in plain sight than it is to have to search for it. It's much easier to mug a person in a dark alley than on a busy street. It's much easier to take candy from children than giant Samoan dudes. :D

There are decisions we make and risks we run which occasionally will backfire on us, and, while I wasn't speaking of you exclusively, often times there are obvious precautions we could have taken to avoid presenting an opportunistic target. Everybody plays the fool.

My apologies if I offended you.

Of course not, and no worries. My Samoan skin is thick :D but I hear you.
