It's almost a week now. My whole family is coughing, so it's like a virus, but there are no other symptoms. Maybe it's the vog, even though we're on O'ahu. Bleah.

This cough has been lingering amongst my friends and coworkers for over 2 months now. I had it for the entire month of February and was miserable!

Yes, left over from two colds that hit me in mid-March.

Me, too. It's still around, after more than six weeks. It came after a slight cold, if that's any good to know.

Well with the winds blowing the vog into Hilo, it's been a bit on the "scratchy throat" side for those of us on the Big Island.

Thank goodness for the heavy rains we've been experiencing the last couple of days. Lots of thunder and lightning.

The other night there was another Flash/Boom near our house. Yesterday morning I went out to inspect my property and discovered lightning had hit my aluminum ladder I had extended out to the top of one of my two 8-foot catchment tanks. Sheez it seems lightning strikes out in my parts is a common thing.

I'm on my 5th illness this year. Sheesh! Not a cough, but a sinus infection, which ends up as a cough with tons of phlegm-cr*p! I've never been sick this often before. Dr. prescribed anti-biotics twice before. Don't know what's going on, but I'm almost inclined to think bio-terrorism or alien invasion...

We ran our daughter to the ER a couple weeks back for our first experience with "the croup" and while she's gotten over her cough, mine, which appeared soon after hers, has lingered. Coupled with allergy season starting up it's just been a peach around here lately.

Ugh! I'm on this list too. And put me down in the "sinus infection" column as well. Thankfully the sinuses got better fairly quickly, but this cough has been going since three days after I got here! And I don't feel sick, just phlegmy.

Cough, cough!

one of our caregivers has had a cough (he's on some kinda meds) for months. he thinks is from air conditioning. i think it's allergies. and, yes, the VOG is making for some red eyes and sinus problems. pray for some tradewinds.

Must be bio-terrorism!

My cough is worst early in the AM, and disappears by lunchtime. Then it starts building up again late in the evening.

I've never had allergies - hope this isn't some late onset allergy happening!

the hubby has the cough - he's had it for weeks now! It gets worse in the night, especially when I'm we're trying to sleep!

GeckoGeek...you bastard ;)

Ouch!

*pin a Purple Heart on Tiabla*

Jeeze.

*take the Purple Heart from Tiabla and pin it on Susie.

Freaky. I think our girls would have nightmares if that ever happened near us. One New Years we were sitting out on the lanai with the girls, when some kids decided fire a mortar in front of our apartment building. Blew up a few floors above our heads.

Have you two heard of a "neti pot"? A friend of mines told me she uses it. I don't think I could, though.

Heh heh. My parents think it's the military doing experiments with the air or water. Experimental vaccines or something. I guess if something goes horribly bad, they can quarantine the entire state :D

We ran our daughter to the ER a couple weeks back for our first experience with "the croup"

Scary. I'm glad everything is ok now, if not perfect. I remember the first time we took our toddler to the ER. She had a high fever and we were debating whether to take her to the hospital. Then she started convulsing and that sealed it. Turned out she had a urinary tract infection.

Yeah. Losing sleep is the worst part. Condolences to both you and your hubby.

Thanks for the neti pot tip. Will try that next time I have sinus trouble, and see if it helps.

Hey! I surf, which always results in lots of seawater up my nose. Then later I get 'brain drain', where it all flies back out my nose with no warning at some random later time. That's similar...

Last time I did it all over my bf's shirt! He was not impressed.

Military experiments.?! I like your parents.

I saw the lightning too, from out the tent flap at Malaekahana. Gorgeous! (except it woke up the roosters:eek:)

I have been clearing my throat too often since the vog alert.

As for the cough, had it early this year. Tea, lemon, and honey just to soothe the throat. Throw in a little Tussin medicine too.

This is typical of what I've had this year. The doc said it originates as post nasal drip and infects the bronchials/lungs. After a while, it morphs from a virus to a bacterial infection if you don't get over it soon, which is why it just lingers and requires antibiotics. If the yellow stuff happens early on, it's a recurring infection, which has been the case with me several times this year. The one I'm getting over now is the same one. I'm gargling with 50/50 peroxide/water mix to try and stop the spread to my lower respiratories. Seems to help.

Earlier, I tried 2 chocolate chip cookies, but it didn't get better in the morning.

Aha! Three's the magic number and make those the big kind, double chocolate chip from Safeway! And, if that doesn't work, I've had good results with accupuncture. Really! Live on the wild side...try both! :D

Just be sure to remove the needles from the cookies before you eat them.
