I found it interesting that the journalist chose to add this little tidbit at the end of the story:
"The three boys, all home-schooled,..."

The 2nd sick part is the disgraceful way blacks have been treated in this country.
To be subjected to un-marked graveYARDS so they can mostly never be found and respected.

Yeah, it could be sensationalism, but the fact that it's at the end makes me wonder if she was trying to sneak in a bit of black humor (no pun intended). I'm sure I'm reading too much into it.

I'm going to skip following the link. It's interesting how every generation seems to generate this type of critter. I don't get it. I guess if I read it, I'd be enlightened regarding the motivation.

Don't worry, you're not missing much. There's not much in the way of enlightenment. It's an exercise left to the reader.

If you delve into geneology research, you'll find there are many old unmarked cemeteries and unmarked graves across the county, used by all races and economic backgrounds. Heck, if memory serves me correctly, there is an even an unmarked cemetery at Makua (makai).

True. There are many, and for many differring reasons.
The difference in un-marked Black graves is the intention.

Really? Why do you think that unmarked "Black graves" have a different "intention" than an unmarked Hawaiian, or Chinese or Caucasian grave?
Unless you are saying that all races have some degree of prejudice towards others, and all races have some degree of prejudice from others, which I'll agree with.

True again.
But the vitrol against blacks by whites has always been the apex of nasty in this country.

Didn't these kids see those series on the Sci-fi channel about searching for evil spirits or ghosts? They're going to be haunted for the rest of their lives.

That's pretty sick. I didn't get the part where the detective believed the story when the kid threw up tho.

Looking at the technical aspect, how do you use a skull, which has pukas for two eyes, nose, mouth, and the neck, as a "bong" .... with all those holes, how do you get the smoke to draw out of the hole you want??
That part of the scenerio makes me think there is something amiss with the story.

Smokers are mad ubiquitous in MacGyvering a bong when they want to.

Sure seems like the whole episode was a lotta' work for the results (not including the bonus adventure of the arrest, of course).

Grave robbing (which is essentially what those boys are guilty of) is far from being a new crime. Problem goes way, way back to ancient times. But up until now, it was usually committed with the idea of stealing valuables like gold fillings or jewelry. Robbing a grave with the idea of using a skull as a bong is a new one, tho.

I wondered about that for a minute myself. I remember skull-shaped bongs but those were made of ceramic. Anyway, I googled it and found this article (http://www.slate.com/id/2191124/).
How To Make a Skull Bong
A guide for the ultimate deadhead.

How do you convert a skull into a bong?
On Thursday, the Houston Chronicle posted a story on its Web site about three teenagers who, according to Houston police, dug up the grave of an 11-year-old boy buried in 1921, removed the corpse's head, and used it as a bong to smoke marijuana. Police have not found the head and say heavy rain has prevented them checking the open grave for a casket. If it's true that the kids stole a skull, could they really have used it as a bong? They give pakalolo smokers a bad name. There was a case in WW2 Philippines where The Americans had "hired" some hill tribe to go after some well entrenched Jap soldiers , that was just too risky.
These barefoot , armed with "Bolo" knives tribe guys snuck up and surrounded the Japanese and on a signal attacked and decapitated the the Japs in unison.
My friend in Luzon saw the old b&W photos in his Grandma's safe (he's Hapa) of what appeared to be some tribal guys paddling down a river with pigs trussed up on pole ready to roast.
But they were not pigs but Japanese solidiers, as the custom goes they paleo and then eat their enemies flesh and the Americans were expected to join in the feast.
By not not joining the "feast" you risk seriously offending the guys that just risked their lives and limb for YOU their FREINDS.In their view they just did you a big favor, the tribe wasn't very happy with the Japanese soldiers... I swear this story is true.

Ok, I don't know of any of my people's tribes practicing cannibalism...and please refrain from using the word "Japs".
