Remember the good days, when all you needed was red rubber ball to have some fun? What are some of the recess games you guys remember playing?

oh wow. I was the Tetherball king. Brings me back some memories.

funny story (but maybe not to some of you). Back in 1969 when i was 4 or 5, we were coming on a vacation to Hawaii and I was telling all my friends on the tetherball court, that if they would let me win, I would bring them back some sugar cane.

Now where was I going to get the money to buy sugar cane at my age? When I came back, I took some real sugar and wet it into a shape and let it dry and presented it to my friends..:D:D (I know, but I was 5 years old).:p

all the above + volleyball and basketball.

chase: well, actually, this wasn't a game. this boy (6th grade) decided that it was funny to pull my long hair. well, that didn't go over well with me. so, i chased him down and beat the crap out of him. yep, i was a tom boy. he got a bloody nose. i got detention. andrew bassler was his name. i wonder if her remembers it the way i do?! hehe.

not recess games, but after school games/activities: track & field, skateboarding, softball, ukulele, guitar and hula.

Recess had a 15 minutes shot clock. There's Potato, Potato, Who is the Rotten Potato, for the really small kid time. Jun-Ken-Po for the little older kid. The now banned E-ni-me-ni-mi-ni-mo had an un-PC line. For the older kid, whoever has the rolled up sock or towel for a ball, you tackle him. But, we could play tackle and not get hurt, because we didn't have certain ethnic groups at our school who look like men and we look like Devo. Yes, we had a junk football team.

Tetherball, oh man, how could I forget that? However, some of the kids used it as the "beat kids with a ball that's strung to a pole" game. Good ol' days *sigh*

As far as ones with balls involved go, I like The Wonder Ball.

(sings) The wonder ball, goes round and round. To pass it quickly, you are bound. If you're the one to hold it last, you are out. O, u, t, out!

Have you played that one?

Not great... because I got in trouble with my Dad... but, Pencil Fight! :D

Used to play Chasemaster and it's evil cousin Smear the Queer (which was kinda like a reverse version of Chasemaster)

Hopscotch, with big squares that required that you be able to jump really far if you had to skip over a square. Skipping over two squares qualified you for the long jump! :D

Which type of rope material gives the best "whoosing" sound as it speeds through the air? Is it just a sound effect like the amplified "swish" of
a long 3pt NBN(Nothing But Net) basketball shot as the player knocks it down?

Does anyone remember Ching-A-Ling? Maybe it was just at my elementary school, but we played chase master on the jungle gym and in order to be "safe" you had to climb into a cube before being tagged it.

We'd have Chinese baseball tournaments -- and Chinese jacks!

Shambattle after school at the gym, I'd rack up so many "lives"!

Does anyone remember using football or baseball cards, stand 'em up against the wall, stand behind a line and using another card try and knock it down? Don't know what that was called, but in order to have a "bumbucha" card you'd tape it up -- lamination pouches weren't around yet.

Wall-to-wall was popular when the rubber balls weren't available.

Pencil fight kind of lost its fun when mechanical pencils were the popular choice.

Good memories!

It's like dodge ball except, when you get hit you go to "jail" which is behind the opponents team. In jail, your teammate can throw the ball to you and if you successfully catch it, you can re-enter the game. If your opponent attempts to hit you with the ball, and it doesn't hit the ground but you catch it, your opponent goes to jail and you earn a "life." You can rack up "lives" and use them to either save yourself if you get hit or your teammate from jail.

I'll add to the confusion...so you mean prisonball? :p

Ooo...I dunno, maybe cotton or a cotton hemp mix. It just seemed like the long gym ropes back in the day were thinner yet heavier than the ropes in schools today that need the plastic tubes on em.

Hmm...never heard it referred to that but if it follows those "made up as you go" rules, yup PrisonBall = ShamBattle!

How about folding paper football? And there's no chance of an offensive holding penalty call.
