Hi Everybody,

Great forum! I grew up in the SF Bay Area. My mom is originally from Maui but graduated from Roosevelt before heading to the mainland for college, career, life, etc. I spent many summers with my grandparents and auntie on Maui. So when a job unexpectedly came up in my field on the Big Island two years ago, I jumped at the chance to reconnect with my family history. My wife and I love it in Waimea. We had our first baby here just over a year ago, North Hawaii Community Hospital birthing unit is the BEST! Thank you again to all the wonderful nurses, midwives, and doctors there. I recommend them and the birthing classes offered there, couldn't have been a better experience.

As much as we love the Big Island, we're hoping to get a more permanent job situation that's come up on Kauai. So I'll be scouring this forum for info on Kauai. My current job has taken me to the Garden Isle several times, and I already love it there too (so much good food!).

I love 3-pronging, will also be scouring this forum for 3-prong stories.

Anyway, thanks for a great forum with what seem to be a lot of good folks. Hope to learn more about where we live.

Yes, 3-pronging is spearfishing. I like spearfishing in the reefs, as opposed to using a spear gun in the deep blue. Nothing against it, would love to do that too, but that's just a bit advanced and equipment intensive for me right now. Hawaii Skin Divers has a great website with vids, pics, etc.

I think my mom would have graduated around 1961.
