I understand somewhat the differences of Fee Simple vs Leasehold.. so why buy leasehold? is the only advantage price?

would it be a better idea to purchase a leasehold knowing in 10 yrs or so you would probably sell?

Leasehold land is just a euphemism for the ancient practice of feudalism. Leasehold land is much cheaper, and that is the advantage. And if you are like me, and know how to apply unbelievable pressure to massive beauracracies like the Bishop Estate, then you can purchase your leasehold, for a fair market price, in as little as 1600 phone calls......especially if you make them all in less than 2 weeks.

You want to cripple a giant beauracracy??? Crush their phone communications, and fill up all the voicemails.

Before you buy leasehold with any sort of expectation that you'll be able to convert to fee simple, read about The Kailuan :

Also problematic is when the lease fee comes up for renewal/renegotiation. Often is is OUCH.
