Sansei...I'd be VERY surprised (shocked would be more like it!) if the call from the "not named police union" has anything at all to do with any of your posts in HawaiiThreads.

Of bigger concern is the caller appears not to have identified herself or the "police union" (Shopo). And the fact that she asked for your deceased dad shows that whatever list she's working off of is outdated.

From now on, if anyone calls asking for your dad and asks who you are, just tell them you're his bodyguard! ;)

i, too, agree with tutusue. when someone calls for my deceased father-in-law, i tell him/her that he's DEAD. if that doesn't end the conversation and the person asks for my mother-in-law (mom), i tell him/her that she has alzheimer's. they are obviously out of the loop and are fishing. when someone asks, "may i speak to the man of the house?", i say, "SPEAKING!".

The police union does have a current fund raising campaign going on now. I just got a call soliciting a donation. I get a call every year. If you donate money once, then you are a target forever.

If you donate money once, then you are a target forever. That's what I was thinking when I read the thread late last night - if it's a police union calling, they are after a donation, or selling tickets to an event, or something similar. If sansei's father contributed even one time in the past, that's how they have his name. Sansei - you needn't worry about anything in this case.

Now that we've (sort of) resolved that, I wonder if sansei would be open to discussing what really makes this a remarkable post: The fact that he assumed that a harassing call was because of his behavior on HT. Sansei, what exactly do you think this place is? It's just a forum. It's just a place to come and talk about "everything," according to the FAQ (http://hawaiithreads.com/faq.php?faq=hawaiithreads_com_faq). It is not an agent of the county government, so no police will seek you because of your behavior here. If you find yourself at odds with the administration, you'll be shown the door, but that happens very rarely and only after repeated intervention. If you find yourself at odds with the participants, then at worst you will be laughed at, ignored, vilified, or shunned, but trust me: None of those things really hurts or matters. Ask timkona. :)

I suspect part of you simply likes attention. I don't judge you for that; the same is true for a great number of us. However, you seem to think you need to resort either to rumor-mongering or endless appeals for forgiveness in order to receive it, and that's getting old. Enough with the sorries, okay? Nobody's going to call you and harass you for your behavior here. I suspect you have interesting things to contribute; let THOSE be the things that get you the attention you crave. 'Cause really. You're not nine.

When I've been called for a fundraiser in the past the caller has always identified him/herself and that s/he is representing SHOPO. Did the caller ID him/herself to you, DNR?

Yes they did. But I told them that it was a bad time for me to donate, as it is with many people, I assume. The caller did not apply pressure tactics.

Sansei...are you absolutely sure the caller didn't mention her name and the name of the organization? If she didn't then, in the future, please do NOT give a caller ANY information. You should either hang up immediately should the caller start requesting information from you OR ask the caller for his/her name, the name of the organization s/he's representing AND the URL. I always say I don't donate via a phone call without first doing research. If you do receive the requested info, come to HawaiiThreads and we'll help you with it.

I received 2 calls a couple of weeks ago, allegedly from my bank, wanting me to participate in a customer service survey. Sounded to me like phone phishing! I declined and called my bank. The call was, in fact, legitimate.

Just this morning I received a phone call allegedly from an attorney's office stating they were collecting for an unpaid debt of $1500.+ and asking for my social security number to make sure they'd reached the right person! Da noive! :D I had fun with that caller! I should've hung up immediately but I was in the mood to listen to her bury herself. She did just that and I never gave her any personal information! She hung up on me! Victory!!!
