Still, it's amazing how those roll cage designs and fire extinguisher systems protect most race car drivers from fatal injuries.

Yes, these situations have been much reduced thru technology and design, but it's this fact that makes it shocking news. It wasn't an abnormal event to lose another racer years back, and no doubt there will be more changes made after determining the factors behind this sad loss.
