Hope my boy Colt Brennan gets some substantial reps in today's Hall of Fame pre-season game between the Washington and Indy at 2pm HST today.

So how'd he do?
Anything to see via utube types?

Still in the first quarter. Don't know if it's tape delay. I'm cleaning house at the moment and just waiting for Colt to get in.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! His very first series in the NFL and he drives the team downfield, finishing with a pass for a touchdown! Attaboy, Colt.
Al Michaels and John Madden have been praising the boy, too. They referred to a few of his passes as "perfect."

Imua Colt!

LikaNui
August 3rd, 2008, 05:30 PM
And another good drive, finished by another touchdown pass!
They can stop considering him as a possible backup quarterback, and starta considering him for the starting job.

LikaNui
August 3rd, 2008, 05:45 PM
Okay, the fourth quarterback is in. Colt ended up completing 9 out of 10 passes... got 123 yards... and two touchdowns.
An auspicious debut, indeed. Al Michaels and John Madden are still talking about him and his "almost perfect" numbers.

Gonna be interesting to see what the national media has to say about him after his performance today.

Just watched the DVR replay. Fast forwarded to third quarter of course. Great game for Colt while he was in there. I've wished he were a Niner under Martz' pass happy offense. But Zorn (like JJ) knows quarterbacks... Colt is in good hands.

Nice stats.

I saw the highlights and was VERY impressed. Preseason action NEVER impresses me, but Colt had all the usual poise and accuracy. Guy carries himself like a QB, and when he gets down under center, you just get the sense that this is a guy who knows how to play the game.

The third quarter of an early NFL preseason game is no real test, of course. I want to see him with first-stringers on both sides of the line, but I suppose it could be a while before we get a look at that. If ever.

The owner of the Washington Redskins likes the veteran big name. So maybe, we might see a Colt Brennan for Brett Favre trade, straight up.

scrivener
August 3rd, 2008, 11:20 PM
That would be interesting. Followers of the NFL Draft thread will remember that I predicted the Packers would draft him anyway. I also thought Chicago or Baltimore could have been nice fits for Brennan. Still, Jason Campbell is not (in my eyes) a proven NFL QB, so Brennan may be in exactly the right place.

As you might expect, a lot of the write-ups for yesterday's game focus on Brennan. The early preseason makes it possible for the possible third-string QB to be the most interesting thing.

The best of the articles I've seen is from the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/07/30/ST2008073002926.html), but be warned there's a semi-insulting comment from Colt at the very end.

Oh, and a pretty good blog post (http://www.nfljuice.com/2008/08/04/brennan-looks-gnarly-in-nfl-debut/).

Ron Whitfield

Semi-insulting indeed! How could he not include the UH babes?

Ron Whitfield

Found a short Colt high-lite reel of the game, and he looked typically sharp on his passing, but some awkward movement in the pocket. Madden sure liked him, would have liked to heard more of that.
Someone sed he was limping a bit.

A fine debut for young Colt Brennan. 9-10, 123 yds, 2 td's, and a 157 rating. Won the game, essentially, for the Redskins. His accuracy is unquestionable.

But one game doth not a career make. He's off to a fine start though.

The same could be said of the No. 1 draft pick. Do we experience the same ups and downs of his career as we would with other Hawaii-based and Hawaii-born athletes in sports?

Do we praise him for his impressive performance on the field that result in a win for the Redskins? Do we criticize him for his poor performance that result in a loss for the Redskins? Do we point out rookie mistakes he make?

Well, we talk about it. There's so little, outside baseball, to talk about in the sports world in the doldrums of the NFL preseason. We all agree that the exhibition season means nothing, but we still watch the games and we still talk. It's part of the fun of the anticipation leading up to the season.

Baseball is the best game for talking; it's actually built into the gameplay itself. Catchers talk to pitchers, second basemen talk to shortstops, managers talk to coaches, spectators talk to each other. But football's good for it too, between games. Because of the weekly nature of the schedule, we get two days of action followed by five days of armchair quarterbacking. It's great. Except for the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins, there is no team whose third-string quarterback I could even guess at. That's what makes this fun. I hope Colt gets to play every game of the preseason because it gives us something to talk about all the way up to that first game.

Probably the best NFL game I ever watched was in the early 90s between the Raiders and Redskins at the end of the season when neither had anything to play for. But they played like it was the title of the Universe on the line, from the first play to the last.

Nice stats, but a chunk of those defenders the 'Skins faced are fighting for roster spots and will be out of the league in a year or two.

Coach wasn't all cheers, seems he deemed Colt to be risking a lot of his throws.

Maybe playing against 1st stringers would have proved him right.

Well I guess I provide updates on Colt Brennan as the Redskins are playing the Buffalo Bills.

Watching the 'Skins telecast, Mike Patrick and Joe Theismann doing the call.
Theismann made a reference to Colt about performances that new Coach Zorn made.
Basically saying that Colt was lucky on a couple of throws.
Had a piece at the start of the 2nd Quarter, saying the 'Skins do have high hopes for Brennan.

Colt made his first appearence in the 3rd Quarter, nice ovation from the 'Skins home crowd at he came in.
First series, 1 of 2 for 8 yds. Redskins kicked FG..score currently Skins 17, Bills 14.

I'll see if the bunny interviews Colt.

Theismann and Patrick give view on 'Skins QB situation, feel that Brennan is likely the no.3 for this season. Can't have 2 young QB's(Campbell has only 13 starts in NFL) backing up each other.

'Skins sticking to the running game in the 4th qtr, QB Devine has only thrown 2 passes.

Looks like no interview with Colt...oh well.

Personal Comment: Unlike last weeks game that was well played, this game is playing like a exhibition game. Mistakes, turnovers, bad reads on passes.

Was the sack because of the pass rush getting in too quickly or did Colt hold the ball too long?

Colt Brennan is the 4th string QB for the Redskins as they play the NY Jets.

Few notes first....Brett Farve as excellent tonight, started the game played 2 series went 5 for 6, 48 yards with 1 TD pass(4 yards). His throws were quick and with zip. The one time he held the ball was sacked. Really looked good handling the offense.

Kellen Clemens, Jets backup QB, struggled with offense hitting only 1 of his first 4 passes.

Colt came in the Redskins first series in the 4th qtr. Went 1 of 2 for 3 yds(dump off pass), 3 and out series for the Redskins.

Watching the CBS New York feed for the game, Ian Eagle and Greg Buttle are the commentators.
During Colt's first series, they mentioned Colt and stated that the Redskins have overall been happy and suprised by Colt's work in the pre-season.

Colt now in for second series, Jets kicked a FG for a 10-6 lead. Colt hit a quick pass on 1st down for 6 yards but a holding call on 2nd down put the Redskins in a hole. Colt sacked on 3rd down on a long yardage play, he scrambled around to avoid rusher but was caught. Colt now 2 of 3 for 9 yards.

2:04 left in the game, Jets still lead 10-6....Colt get's to run the 2 minute drill.

First play 37 yard bomb...Great Pass...Redskins now at Jets 43...2 minute warning(1:54 left).
Skins run a draw play...down to the 30.
Colt sacked on 1st down, but Colt recovers on 2nd down and hits a WR down the middle TOUCHDOWN!
Colt now 4-5, 79 yards with a TD.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
The Jest return the favor...almost.

Jets drive down the field behind 3rd string QB Ratliffe...have a 1st and goal at the 3.
1st down play fade to the corner, caught out of bounds.
2nd down...great pass over the middle but dropped.
On 3rd down play clock winds down, forced to call TO. Decide for whatever reason to kick FG(Mangenius it's PRE-SEASON). FG hits the crossbar...J-E-S-T...Jest, Jest, Jest.
final score Redskins 13 Jets 10.

Not much to give you as the Carolina Panthers killed the Redskins 47-3.

Colt played in the 4th qtr, first series mostly short throws and went for it on 4th down.
Second series made just a couple of throws as the Redskins just wanted to get it over with.

Colt finished 6 of 12 for 53 yards.
Didn't have the audio up since this game was wayyyyyy over when Colt came in.

Hopefully a better deal next week.

It seems like Colt is the only QB on the 'Skins that actually gets Zorn's offense. To bad he'll be relegated to clipboard duty come regular season. I hope he gets a chance in the last pre-season game against a first-team defense.

Update for the final Pre-Season game for the Redskins as they face the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Scanning the Washington sports sites the Redskins will likely play it's starters in the final pre-season game after the mess in Carolina, so less time for Colt to play.

But on the bright side, the game will be telecast locally on KHNL live at 1pm on Thursday.
