I downloaded the free version of the Spore Creature Creator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRr3lgckIAM), and it's a lot of fun. It's a combination of Mr. Potato Head and Play-Doh. Very intuitive user interface.
Here's a few creatures I've created already:
The dreaded Uku. You can only get rid of it by pourin gasoline on top your head and light one match:

The dangerous, but cuddly Pillow Bull. Almost hunted to extinction by sofa manufacturers, they were saved by the valiant efforts of the Sierra Club:

And finally the Nose Walker. A sad, pitiful creature; especially with allergy season close approaching:

You can download a free version (http://www.spore.com/trial) of SCC. For $10 (http://eastore.ea.com/store/ea/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/ThemeID.1252400&productID=95024000) you get all the play pieces. If you wait a few weeks, the full version (http://eastore.ea.com/store/ea/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/ThemeID.1252400&productID=91619200) of the game will be released.
(a note about the free PC version: the installer will ask you if you want to also install the EA Download Manager. this is not needed. also the installer may fail to place a shortcut on your desktop or in your Start menu, so you may have to create one yourself).
You can share your Spore creatures by uploading them, within the game, and linking your Spore Homepage (http://www.spore.com/view/profile/MyopicJoe).
