What's not to hate about McPalin?

*laughs*

hate is such a strong word....which i should not have used on any of my posts.

understanding the disgust over McPalin....and we have every right with our own opinions on how one should conform or adhere to what is right and what is wrong

my opinions and beliefs are futile to most. but i try to make sense of what is and what isn't. we fuel so much of our energy on things that is out of our control.....

neither mccain nor obama is experienced (who is to say? - who am i the least to merit mccains nor obamas experience?) - neither of us can forsee what will become if either of the 2 will become president. but what we should hope with that ounce of humility left in us is to support whoever becomes president.

we are in deep sh^*%&^....america was looked at from the outside as opportunity for any and all....now we are a big joke!!!!

i truly believe that we will find our way out of it....and not point blame as to who, why where and what? (it makes for good entertainment) who will lead us in the next 4 years i do not know. yes we have every right to our opinions.

will mccain and palin find a way out? i do not know

will obama and biden find a way out? i do not know either

but believing that whoever will find a way out; deserves a little more than just opinions

Personally, I neither hate nor am disgusted by Sen. McCain. He has served America well, on both the military and political fronts. He was a maverick in the past, often butting heads with the GOP leadership and going against his party's wishes, when he felt that their direction was not best for his constituents. I greatly respect him for his service.

But, in his bid to gain the presidential nomination, he ceased to be a maverick, and instead embraced and espoused political views that he was against in the past, purely to his personal advantage. He lost much of my respect because of that.

As for Gov. Palin, I know so little of her political record short of what has been revealed since her announcement as the v.p. candidate - and it doesn't look particularly honorable. She strikes me as a very divisive candidate, and not someone I would want to have so much power in government. No hate, no disgust, just mistrust.

Thank you, LL. You, pretty much, put my thoughts into words. I certainly admire McCain's service to our country but I don't believe for a minute that his ordeal has had no residual effects on him as he claims. His mental health records will never be released. Wish I'd bookmarked the site where I read that but, sorry, I didn't. He had a vile temper prior to his service and he has an even more vile temper now. That reeks of PTSD to me. Scary.

Palin? Yes, mistrust is a good word. My concern is, should that ticket be elected, she'll overstep her boundaries as the VP in a bid to prove herself for her presidential bid in the future. I can only imagine the number of "C" bombs McCain will drop on her...and the trouble she could get our nation into. Palin's nowhere close to being ready for prime time. Nor do I think she's anything close to being a team player. I'd still like to hang out with her, tho', if she wasn't a politician! :D

Parah Salin is refusing to release her medical records. Many pundits are saying the reason is they will show that Trig is not her son. At this point, I tend to agree with that viewpoint. I believe her duaghter Bristol, the mother of Trig, is an oversexed, under loved child of parents who are too focused on their individual innterests to give her the attention she needs and deserves. I am waiting to see if Bristol gives birth on December 18. But that will prove nothing one way or the other with regards to her being the mother of Trig. In my opinion, Bristol will never marry her red neck boyfriend. I do not condemn Bristol, she is a victim of an overly ambitious mother. She needs love and support from her immediate family.

Why do children always suffer because of the sins of their parents? Sad.

Sarah Palin gets punk'd. Bigtime.

A couple of Montreal DJs dubbed "The Masked Avengers" fool Palin into thinking that she was actually talking to French President Nicolas Sarkozy for some seven minutes. Obviously, the "globe-trotting" VP nominee was blissfully unaware that Sarkozy is not fluent in English.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fqyQ9Av-Ks

When you think about it, it's scary. If a couple of DJs can string along Palin with a silly impersonation of Sarkozy, can you imagine how naive she now looks to the rest of the world?

The neocons can spin this one all they want. But Palin is clearly not qualified to be vice president/president. Not now, not ever.

Palin and her staff recovered poorly from that prank. Instead of wrapping it up gracefully Sarah hands over the phone without a proper goodbye, then has her staff hang up with an annoyed tone.

At the moment they might have thought that was it. But they forgot there's something called the "internet" and things like this is like a boomerang pie: it keeps coming back to smack her in the face. :-)

The bad news is that Todd Palin would want to go with Ozzie on an ATV ride, and remember that the last time Ozzie tried that he broke his collarbone. (That was at his place in England.)
And the Osbourne kids could take the Palin kids out and show them around Hollywood.

There's something sad about watching Palin's interviews where she says something to the effect of, "look, this is a historic occasion and we're talking about clothes! We should not be talking about clothes at a time like this." A friend of mine describes this as "don't look over here, look over there! A shiny thing over there! No, I swear, there's nothing here but something really sparkly over there!" It's not about a couple of socks, it's about Palin's apparent pattern of ethically challenged behavior.

Ohmygosh... look what Sarah Palin just said (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/12/palin/index.html):

Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday that she would be honored to help President-elect Barack Obama in his new administration, even if he did hang around with an "unrepentant domestic terrorist."
The Alaska governor said in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer that if Obama asked her for help on some of the issues she highlighted during this year's campaign, such as energy or services for special-needs children, "it would be my honor to assist and support our new president and the new administration."

Sarah Palin did not say that she thought that Africa was a country.
This was part of an elaborate blog hoax that was picked up by mainstream news, notabley MSNBC. They admitted today that they should have checked out their sources better. The new york times has also printed a retraction of sorts, more of an explanation really on how everyone was duped by a blogger that has run several hoaxes that make the republicans look foolish, inept and corrupt.
It is odd how this doesnt come out until after an important election, the media are so ready for stories of this nature but they dont check it out first and it gets spread evrywhere, including hawaiithreads as gospel. i think we all need to take everything we hear with a grain of salt before we make ourselves look foolish along with the media.

That she does.

But her approval rating beats Bush's.

Considering how low Bush's ratings are, that is faint praise.

Which means there's a lot of people out there still enamored of her.

Some people are very enamored of Rush Limbaugh. Doesn't mean he has a realistic shot at getting elected President.

No doubt she's considering the potential opportunity of taking Craig Steven's seat.

You mean Ted Stevens. And aren't we getting ahead of ourselves here, seeing as how Mark Begich is (at last count) ahead of Stevens in the Senate race. And if the final results are close enough, the loser will likely demand a recount. The race is far from decided, and until we know who the winner is, there is no decision for Palin to make.

Actually it was Faux News that first reported the Africa story.

It is odd how this doesnt come out until after an important election, the media are so ready for stories of this nature but they dont check it out first and it gets spread evrywhere,

That is incorrect. The story was leaked to a Faux News reporter by a McPalin Campaign insider before the election. Faux News decided to sit on the story until after the election so that it would not hurt McPalin at the polls. It didn't matter becasuse Palin had already convinced most people that she was an idiot without the aid of bogus stories.

i think we all need to take everything we hear with a grain of salt before we make ourselves look foolish along with the media.

Musings of Dick Cavett

November 14, 2008, 10:00 pm

The Wild Wordsmith of Wasilla

Electronic devices dislike me. There is never a day when something isn’t ailing. Three out of these five implements — answering machine, fax machine, printer, phone and electric can-opener — all dropped dead on me in the past few days.

Now something has gone wrong with all three television sets. They will only get Sarah Palin.

I can play a kind of Alaskan roulette. Any random channel clicked on by the remote brings up that eager face, with its continuing assaults on the English Lang.

There she is with Larry and Matt and just about everyone else but Dr. Phil (so far). If she is not yet on “Judge Judy,” I suspect it can’t be for lack of trying.

What have we done to deserve this, this media blitz that the astute Andrea Mitchell has labeled “The Victory Tour”?

I suppose it will be recorded as among political history’s ironies that Palin was brought in to help John McCain. I can’t blame feminists who might draw amusement from the fact that a woman managed to both cripple the male she was supposed to help while gleaning an almost Elvis-sized following for herself. Mac loses, Sarah wins big-time was the gist of headlines.

I feel a little sorry for John. He aimed low and missed.

What will ambitious politicos learn from this? That frayed syntax, bungled grammar and run-on sentences that ramble on long after thought has given out completely are a candidate’s valuable traits?

And how much more of all that lies in our future if God points her to those open-a-crack doors she refers to? The ones she resolves to splinter and bulldoze her way through upon glimpsing the opportunities, revealed from on high.

What on earth are our underpaid teachers, laboring in the vineyards of education, supposed to tell students about the following sentence, committed by the serial syntax-killer from Wasilla High and gleaned by my colleague Maureen Dowd for preservation for those who ask, “How was it she talked?”

My concern has been the atrocities there in Darfur and the relevance to me with that issue as we spoke about Africa and some of the countries there that were kind of the people succumbing to the dictators and the corruption of some collapsed governments on the continent, the relevance was Alaska’s investment in Darfur with some of our permanent fund dollars.

And, she concluded, “never, ever did I talk about, well, gee, is it a country or a continent, I just don’t know about this issue.”

It’s admittedly a rare gift to produce a paragraph in which whole clumps of words could be removed without noticeably affecting the sense, if any.

(A cynic might wonder if Wasilla High School’s English and geography departments are draped in black.)

(How many contradictory and lying answers about The Empress’s New Clothes have you collected? I’ve got, so far, only four. Your additional ones welcome.)

Matt Lauer asked her about her daughter’s pregnancy and what went into the decision about how to handle it. Her “answer” did not contain the words “daughter,” “pregnancy,” “what to do about it” or, in fact, any two consecutive words related to Lauer’s query.

I saw this as a brief clip, so I don’t know whether Lauer recovered sufficiently to follow up, or could only sit there, covered in disbelief. If it happens again, Matt, I bequeath you what I heard myself say once to an elusive guest who stiffed me that way: “Were you able to hear any part of my question?”

At the risk of offending, well, you, for example, I worry about just what it is her hollering fans see in her that makes her the ideal choice to deal with the world’s problems: collapsed economies, global warming, hostile enemies and our current and far-flung twin battlefronts, either of which may prove to be the world’s second “30 Years’ War.”

Has there been a poll to see if the Sarah-ites are numbered among that baffling 26 percent of our population who, despite everything, still maintain that President George has done a heckuva job?

A woman in one of Palin’s crowds praised her for being “a mom like me … who thinks the way I do” and added, for ill measure, “That’s what I want in the White House.” Fine, but in what capacity?

Do this lady’s like-minded folk wonder how, say, Jefferson, Lincoln, the Roosevelts, et al (add your own favorites) managed so well without being soccer moms? Without being whizzes in the kitchen, whipping up moose soufflés? Without executing and wounding wolves from the air and without promoting that sad, threadbare hoax — sexual abstinence — as the answer to the sizzling loins of the young?

(In passing, has anyone observed that hunting animals with high-powered guns could only be defined as sport if both sides were equally armed?)

I’d love to hear what you think has caused such an alarming number of our fellow Americans to fall into the Sarah Swoon.

Could the willingness to crown one who seems to have no first language have anything to do with the oft-lamented fact that we seem to be alone among nations in having made the word “intellectual” an insult? (And yet…and yet…we did elect Obama. Surely not despite his brains.)

Sorry about all of the foregoing, as if you didn’t get enough of the lady every day in every medium but smoke signals.

I do not wish her ill. But I also don’t wish us ill. I hope she continues to find happiness in Alaska.

May I confess that upon first seeing her, I liked her looks? With the sound off, she presents a not uncomely frontal appearance.

But now, as the Brits say, “I’ll be glad to see the back of her.”

Sarah Palin was offered $2 million to do a porno

http://palinsupermilf.com/

Gee, with that kind of money she could put half into an index fund. Within 10 years it will probably double if not triple. Pay taxes and live on the rest. She would have it made if she lives within her means.

It would destroy her chances for public office. But she could do worse.

If she moved to Italy, it would IMPROVE her chances for public office! I can see the headlines now, "Sarah Palin says she has nothing to hide!"

Sarah Palin returns to Alaska and gets slapped by reality:

Yet another ethics complaint filed against her.

The recent plunge of crude oil prices, meaning the days of huge budget surpluses and tax refunds that people in her state enjoyed are coming to an end.

Yep...this is more like Tina Fey than Palin. It's a hilarious video, especially at the end, when you finally stop watching the guy in the background long enough to actually listen to what she's saying.

Sarah's got 800 offers, according to this story (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/22/palin.popularity.oprah.ap/index.html) from CNN:

"Oprah wants her, and so do Letterman and Leno. Fresh from her political defeat, Sarah Palin is juggling offers to write books, appear in films and sit on dozens of interview couches at a rate that would be astonishing for most Hollywood stars, let alone a first-term governor.
"Sarah Palin continues to attract huge media interest despite her failed bid to become vice president. The failed Republican vice presidential candidate crunched state budget numbers this week in her 17th-floor office as tumbling oil prices hit Alaska's revenues. Meanwhile, her staff fielded television requests seeking the 44-year-old for late-night banter and Sunday morning Washington policy. Agents, including those from the William Morris Agency, have come knocking. There's even been an offer to host a TV show.
"Tomorrow, Gov. Palin could do an interview with any news media on the planet," said her spokesman, Bill McAllister. "Tomorrow, she could probably sign any one of a dozen book deals. She could start talking to people about a documentary or a movie on her life. That's the level we are at here."
"Barbara Walters called me. George Stephanopoulos called me," McAllister said. "I've had multiple conversations with producers for Oprah, Letterman, Leno and 'The Daily Show.' "
(...)
"Palin may have emerged from the campaign politically wounded, with questions about her preparedness for higher office and reports of an expensive wardrobe, but she's returned to Alaska with an expanded, if unofficial, title: international celebrity.
(...)
"Palin is considering about 800 requests for appearances from December through 2009, with 75 percent coming from out of state. A year ago, just a sprinkle of requests came from beyond Alaska's borders. They range from invitations to speak at the Chief Executives' Club of Boston, Massachusetts, and to attend a 5-year-old's birthday party, from a prayer breakfast in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to a business conference in Britain.
(...)
"She has invitations to make appearances in 20 foreign countries, typically with all expenses paid, McAllister said. She has more than 200 requests for media interviews, again from around the globe.
(...)
"Although books and movie deals could be worth millions of dollars, it's not clear whether Palin would be able to legally earn it. State rules say she cannot accept outside employment for compensation. But there appears to be little in the way of precedent left by former governors to judge if book deals or lucrative speaking appearances amount to "employment."
"Palin has sent unmistakable signals that she is open to running for president in 2012, but to advance her political ambitions, she must stay in the public eye in the lower 48 states."

I don't know if that last statement is necessarily true. Rather than advancing her celebrity status, it is more important for her to establish her qualifications for the Presidency. So while being in the public eye could be more helpful to Palin, it needs to be for the right reasons. Stories/interviews that will bolster her foreign policy credentials would be most beneficial. But media appearances just for the sake of it could easily prove detrimental, as it could give further ammunition for the comedians and pundits.

It'll be interesting to see if she chooses to go the celebrity route or the smarter route. The former would be easy for her; the latter would take some really hard work.

Will she still be able to govern properly, as busy as she is? The last part of that link I provided yesterday included this:

"Just this week, shortly after conducting a string of national TV interviews and skipping a state education conference, she was scolded by the Anchorage Daily News.
"There are ... low graduation rates, plummeting North Slope oil prices, proposals to build alternative energy projects, the gas pipeline," the paper said in an editorial. "It's time for the governor to refocus on Alaska's needs."

Remember, her election as Governor wasn't as much because voters supported her; it was much more because they wanted her predecessor out.
If she loses re-election in 2010, she can sure forget about 2012!

I wouldn't bet on that. Obama stands to be a 1 termer. 2012, the right will be out in force, and the left will typically be stupid and lazy, opening the door for another x amount of years of republican destruction of America.

There are still multi millions of the right base who love Bible Spice and will vacuously vote her into DC without caring how dangerous she is or that she's a nincompoop and National embarrassment.

It's all good and well that you got a kick out of the republicans having stalled out the needed governing that should have been done during the later years of his term that Bill Clinton was endlessly haranged so that they could simply gain some political advantage, and that you think if Hillary became president that she too would be seeking BJs from some lurking Lewinsky's...
But, could you focus on the question of just what it is that leads you to your heart felt beliefs concerning republicans like Sarah Palin being worthy of anything in government?

According to this CNN story (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/01/08/palin-takes-digs-at-fey-couric/#more-34883), it appears that ol' Sarah Palin is sticking her hoof foot in her mouth again:

Palin takes digs at Fey, Couric

"Sarah Palin is credited with making Tina Fey a world-wide star and boosting Katie Couric's ratings at CBS. But in a recent interview with conservative John Ziegler, Palin said both "exploited" her twelve-week candidacy — a fact, she said, that "says a great deal about our society.”

No, Sarah. It says more about you and your own ability -- or lack thereof -- to deal with hard questions and the spotlight of the position that you sought.

"I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration — that’s a little bit perplexing”

Um... which "administration"? Gotta be the one in Alaska, eh?

"In the wide-ranging interview, Palin also faulted the McCain campaign for agreeing to a series of sit-downs with Couric after the first one appeared to go so poorly.
“I knew it didn’t go well the first day, and then we gave her a couple of other segments after that," she said. "And my question to the campaign was, after it didn’t go well the first day, why were we going to go back for more…going back for more was not a wise decision either.”

Because, Sarah, you should have studied your mistakes in the first interview and learned from them, then you might've come off better in the remaining installments with Katie. But clearly you'd rather whine about it.
And you expected to handle far more agressive foreign leaders?

Referring to the CNN link above:
“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled, and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope,” she said.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here, also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be," she also said.
Hellooooooo, Sarah? Caroline isn't running for VP of the USA, ya know, the position that's just one heartbeat away from running 50 states in a global arena. Got that? I didn't think so. Whine on.

How will Sarah "prove" that there's a class issue? And even more glaring, why is Sarah thinking about "class" anyway? She's obviously implying that Caroline Kennedy is HIGH class, so that must mean that Sarah think of herself as... LOW class?

You betcha.

That really seems to be it, in which case Miz Sarah could work on bringing up her own 'class quotient' by going to a few Toastmasters meetings, taking a few classes in Constitutional law, something along those lines....or...

She could just dog paddle back to the shallow end and put her water wings back on.
