Gotta love how Wayne insipidly relegates the day's gone by, but still venerable staple of Hawaii's music, Hawaii Calls, as a "variety show". This weekly program ran non-stop for decades, used the finest in local talent to broadcast HAWAII world-wide into the homes and wherever else the broadcast could be recieved, and sparked unnumerable fledgling musicians like the great steel guitarist Jerry Byrd to not only love Hawaiian music, but become top artists that spent their lives playing and promoting it. Generations grew up with this show and was immeasurably important towards making Hawaii the best of what it is today.
Nothing like it exists today, and if it did, we'd be way better off as far as the tourism business is concerned, to say the least.
